Considering all of the risks involving space travel, it would be more humane and perhaps more practical to send Artificial Intelligence out into deep space to serve as ambassadors to us Earthlings. Likewise, might not an alien race decide to do the same thing?

So what would the design of these robots tell us about their creators? What type of robot representative would we send out and how do you think the aliens would interpret their design?

Thanks for your input.

As ambassadors, we would probably want them to represent as much as possible. It'd likely be humanoid, possibly even with fake skin and realistic eyes (asopposed to just two camera stuck into the head).

Arthur C. Clarke's The Fountains of Paradise had an alien AI visitor in the form of a space probe that never slowed down, but broadcast continuously to humankind as it passed through the solar system. If you were concerned about cost then that would be a lot cheaper than building a humanoid robot and transporting it to the planet's surface where the locals might just try to eat it.
