What should I call them?

Ok, in my story theres these things that are like humans but aren't. Like Tessa. These things have powers. Or at least they can control an element and they use it to kill demons. They are tall, can hear the tiniest sound from far away, have amazing scent[example: Tessa was on her roof and the sky was clear, but she scented damp earth, then it had rained], and are, how can I say, athletic[climb on trees, run really fast, ect..]. Every thing has there own animal that posesses the same element they do. They share power. I don't know what to call these animals either. Tessa's animal is gonna be a tiger. Tessa can control all of th elements for she was born special. the main thing that she can control is spirit. With spirit she can heal, disappear, make a shield, ect....

So, what do you guys think? Can you help me out? I have no idea what to call them or there animals.

If this is holding you up from writing, just call them "things" in your draft and get on with the story. As it progresses you may get ideas for what to call them, but if it is going to be some kind of made-up name, the reader won't really give a darn. As you develop them as characters, something meaningful may come up that suggests a good name, or as the story develops, some event may trigger a thought for a good name. The most important thing, though, is to not let a very minor detail like this hold up your progress.

And by "scent", I think you mean the sense of smell. If one has a scent, it means that person is giving off an odor, not detecting one. Does your creature have the ability to smell like damp earth?

Well usually people who can control elements are called Elementals, and the animals sound like Familiars.

I've got things in my WIP that I don't have a proper name for. I'm calling them Beings at the moment. If something better comes up, I'll change it. If it doesn't, they'll just be Beings!

The animals are definitely familiars, by any stretch of the imagination. Pullman's "daemons" are not quite the same, though they come close.

The people could be called anything, from demon-hunters, as a reference, to some species name from another language. Elementals could work well, too, though it's a bit well-used.

Sounds like this belongs more in the Get with the Genre Sci-fi/Fantasy section than here, though.

XD I Immediately thought of portabello mushrooms. Not a bad thing, but...

Anyway, I liked Altamores.
What I'd do if I were you is find some cool-sounding word in another language that means assassin, and put elemental suffixes onto it
eg. (Except instead of this 'assassin' ending, try to come up with something neat-sounding, even if you totally make it up and it means nothing)
Aerassassin (controls air)
Aquassasin (controls water)
Terrassassin (controls earth)
Flammassassin (that sounds ridiculous)

Uh...good luck. *feels silly. Flammassassin...*shakes head**

If you're drawing on any Native American influences the animals could be Totems or Spirit Guides, or just Guides.
