The Orphanage, it's not long. I did this when I was 10. I need a beta reader.
Moderator edit: this version isn't for critique, it's posted as a sample so potential beta readers can see. There's another version in Share Your Work critique forum, check out further posts below.
This is a fiction play, based in the Victorian era, it has humor, mystery and romance. It is an old play, but I would like if someone would look over it and give harsh criticisms, but with evidence of where, I want someone to read and evaluate my work, also to give me some tips would be great and also to ask me some questions. I am looking for someone who can give really good guidelines. I prefer traditional publishing, but I won't mind if it is self-publishing. I feel comfortable with all knowledgeable individuals, but they must have some insight on Victorian era. I hope someone reads this.

Intro: Narrator
There is a boat in the background and you see the waves as well. Around the stage you can see a port in London; where there are shopping malls, tattoo parlours, hairdressers and a circus, each one is trying to seduce the people making shop there. They are moving and the clerks are selling like crazy, when a woman comes along. Enter Narrator. Wait two minutes. Then everyone quiets down and continues on while keeping the noise level to a minimum. The Narrator keeps same voice and tone.
Narrator Good evening ladies and gents, and welcome to London. I think I know why you're here. "London is the finest city in the world": that's what they say, isn't it? Don't be fooled. There's always shadow where there's light.. Beneath the pristine surface lie criminals. For every family man there's a rapist. For every hard worker there's a thief. And for every kind soul there's a murderer. (Hear a scream in the background and people just hear it once and they don't really care). But few people care. They're content to live here. Changing the city doesn't concern them, and so they grow use to the sounds and screams regardless of how close to death the one emitting them is. (Pause) But let me tell you about two people who did care. Parents of a young girl, who wanted what's best for their child, Anna. While revolution raged they sent her away to this city, in an orphanage so that she would be safe. Anna went under the care of someone named Cita Rita. She attended a primary school called Seaside Down in London. She did well, though her teacher didn't give her the easiest of times. At best, she was strict and at worst she was the kind of person you'd just want to shoot. (Reassuring) Ah, not that we'd actually go through with that ladies and gents. After all, we're all such law abiding citizens, aren't we? (Narrator walks off toward the shopping mall, picks up chocolate from a vendor, turns and gives a sly look at the audience and then and eats it without paying)
Act one Scene one the classroom and the Headmaster office
The classrooms are aligned into a perfect order. Four desks on the left side, four in the middle and four on the right side. A big teacher's desk sits in the middle, with a blackboard right behind it. The students are talking amongst themselves, when the teacher enters, she puts her cane down and you see Anna running in and accidentally bumping into her teacher.
Teacher: Why are you late?
Anna: Cita Rita is really ill, so I wanted to take care of her.
Teacher: (calm) Do you think I care? No! (yelling) Just sit down or else the cane.
Anna: I want to know, do you have a husband by chance? Maybe a life outside of your cell?
Teacher: (mumbling) No.
Anna: (sly) (Giggle)
Teacher: Sit down now.
Anna: Yes, warden, whatever you say.
Teacher: (Stern look)
As soon as the teacher finished writing on the blackboard the Headmaster's voice can be heard calling Anna. The teacher and all the other students are asked to leave while the Headmaster speaks with Anna. The Headmaster is accompanied by two unknown adults, both of them dressed in black.
Headmaster: Good evening Anna.
Anna: What did I do this time?
Headmaster: Such a joker, aren’t you? (Pause) Anyway, I am here for more serious business. These two people are Rosetta and Dingo.
Rosetta and Dingo bow to her, like if she is a princess.
Rosetta: Hello, we're the home agents. We take people to the home. Isn't that right Dingo, my associate?
Dingo: … Yes. (there is a slight pause) In fact, we treat them there as if they were kings or queens. (slight pause) Would you like that?
Rosetta: Well, you can either go with us or stay in the orphanage…
Anna: As much as I want to go, I have a question. Will Cita Rita be able to come?
Rosetta and Dingo look at each other shocked.
Rosetta and Dingo: We don't want old people there, thank you very much. We just recently got the old person smell out. So, why not just come along? (Rosetta clutches Anna's arm. When this happens, Anna steps on her foot. Rosetta let's go of Anna's arm. Anna leaves the headmaster's office, running.) That little scamp…
Headmaster: When do I get my money? I went through the trouble of organising this, the least you could do is tell me when I'll get paid. (Rosetta and Dingo start laughing.) What's so funny?
Rosetta: Oh, nothing. Dingo, just give him his reward.
Dingo: Right, how should I give it, then?
Rosetta: (whispering) Slow and painful.
Dingo: Understood.
Rosetta: Let’s have a drink first, shall we? We should commemorate our little agreement.
Headmaster: I can’t see why not.
Dingo gives the headmaster a drink. The Headmaster drinks it and falls on the floor, dying.
Rosetta: Let's go and leave him. Our job is done here.
Exit Rosetta and Dingo.
Scene two The Orphanage
Cita Rita is sitting on her desk eating when she hears a knock on the door. The knock was very loud and Cita Rita started to think that the person was in desperate need of help. Cita Rita opens the door she see's Anna. Anna falls into Cita Rita.
Cita Rita: (worried) What's wrong Anna? What happened at School? You look really scared; can I help you with anything? Tell me quickly so I can help.
Anna: (confused) I met two people who will take me to the home. When I asked them about you, they were surprised. I didn’t like them.
Cita Rita: Who were they?
There is a slight pause
Cita Rita: Please Anna, who were they?
Anna: Their names were Rosetta and Dingo.
Cita Rita: (worried) My god, you must run now.
Anna: (scared) Why?! I can stay, just tell me why must I run?
Cita Rita: You must, I sense something bad would happen to you, if someone tries to find you and take you away. I don't want anyone in my life to forget me, when you are gone.
Cita Rita becomes scared and worried walks around the stage, getting some things to give to Anna. She gives Anna 50 pounds. Anna is startled by this.
Anna: (confused) Why are you giving this to me?
Cita Rita: (yelling) Now leave.
Cita Rita opens the back door and she pushes Anna out.
Anna: Why are doing this? Please tell me.
There was no response. Cita Rita could say no more. Anna leaves and heads toward a neighbouring town.
Scene 3 Brighton
Anna heads to a shop and speaks to a Shopkeeper.
Shopkeeper: Hey there. Where are you going?
Anna: (Nothing)
Shopkeeper: You lost or something?
Anna: I... I'm not lost.
Shopkeeper: You want to be a bit more careful. These streets are nowhere for a young girl to be going nowhere on her own.
Anna: I... I'm not going nowhere.
Shopkeeper: You follow this road, you come to a dead end. Seems like nowhere to me. (Pause) If you've got nowhere to go there's a hotel I know of a hotel, if you need a place to stay. You have to head north, then west. It is a big, white hotel. You can’t miss it.
Anna: T-thank you.
Shopkeeper: You stay alert, you hear me. Don't want nothing bad to happen to you.
Both of them exit. The Narrator comes on stage and starts talking.
Narrator: Hello again. Well this is a turn of events. First the teacher problem, then the strange people at the Orphanage. How tragic. (You hear the Narrator sarcastically crying) At least she found a caring shopkeeper. I hope Anna gets things going her way soon. I like her. She has spunk. (Pause) Cita Rita must have had her reasons for banishing Anna, didn’t she? Let’s move on to the Brighton hotel.
Narrator exit
Scene 4 The Hotel
Enter Anna, Albert, Priest and other hotel staff. Everyone is talking except Anna, who look lost. After 2 minutes Anna starts walking around and starts talking to the Priest of the hotel. She comes up from behind him.
Anna: (shy and scared) Hello… um… can I make a prayer? (slight pause)
The Priest turns quickly and scares Anna. You hear a loud scream from Anna.
Priest: Sorry to frighten you. What's wrong?
Anna: (worried) For a Priest, you give me the worst creeps ever. Anyway, (brave and confident) I want to make a prayer for my safety and my mother's safety.
Priest: Fine by me but two quid per prayer.
Anna: That's a bloody rip-off. Who’s ever heard of paying for a prayer?
Priest: Nothing's free when times are this bad. Let me hear your pockets young scam of Britain. (doesn’t hear any money within Anna’s pockets) I can't believe it, what would the people of think of me if I had this little girl pay no money for a prayer, oh fine do your stupid prayer.
Anna walks over to cross on wall and kneels down.
Anna: (sarcastically) Thank you?(whispering) God, please look over my mother, Cita Rita and guide me in the right direction. Amen.
Priest: So what happened between you and your mother, if I may ask?
Anna: Um…nothing really. I just had to leave home.
Priest: Leave home? Why?
Anna: My mother told me to get out. She didn’t say why.
Priest: She must have had her reasons.
(Pause)
Priest: I'll tell you something.
Anna: Okay, but does it cost anything?
Priest: No. this ones for free. (Pause) When I was young man, my mum told me I could be anything I wanted to be if I studied for all my subjects. People do listen to their mother, but not me. My mother just nagged and nagged but others would tell me to heed her words. Even though I believed it was useless advice, I wish I would have listened to her from the very beginning. I went to college and failed many of my subjects.
While Anna is listening she starts to fall asleep. The Priest gets angry and shouts.
Anna: (surprised) What happened? Fire, or is someone drowning?
Priest: Nothing, but you slept through the end of my story.
Anna: No offence old man, but I didn't find that story beautiful or inspiring. It was very boring, though. I should go…
Anna walking off stage. The Priest yells at her as she reaches the exit.
Priest: (angrily) You little brat! No respect! And I gave you free prayer, too!
Anna: (smiling) Well, then, thanks for nothing.
Priest and Anna walk off the stage, Anna goes back in.
Anna: (mumbling) That old Priest was weird. What kind of church would allow him to congregate anyway?
While she is walking through the hotel, she bumps into a person named Albert.
Anna: Oh sorry, please forgive me.
Albert: Hmmm, you should watch where you are going, scamp.
Anna: I said sorry.
Albert: Hmmm, yes.
Priest: Albert, why are you doing talking to this girl?
Albert: She bumped into me and was trying to make me apologize.
The Priest looks at Anna and tells Albert what happened before.
Priest: If anyone SHOULD apologize, it is her, b---.
Albert: (Interrupted) I agree.
Anna: (shouting) This place is filled with loonies!
As they start arguing, they hear two people coming. They sound a lot like Rosetta and Dingo. Anna tells them, they should hide or run because they are bad people. After she tells them the Priest takes Albert and we find out something about Albert.
Priest: (shouting) Run Prince Albert.
Enter Rosetta and Dingo.
Rosetta: Where is the girl?
Priest: I don’t know what you are talking about.
Rosetta: Well, that is a shame indeed.
Rosetta points a gun at the Priest as she sticks her tongue out. The priest is shot and dies. Albert witnesses the shooting and runs off stage.
Dingo: We can find her later. I need to rest. Let’s get a room.
Rosetta: Fine. She can’t run forever.
Rosetta steps on the Priest’s face.
Dingo: Respect the dead, Rosetta. And he is a priest, of all things.
Rosetta: Fine, let the police handle the body.
Exit Dingo and Rosetta, Enter Narrator.
Narrator: Oh my! Does this type of thing happen everywhere? Murders…terrible indeed. I wish there was no such thing as murders. One person is dead, which is a shame. But, I didn’t know him personally, so it doesn’t really effect me now does it? (There is a slight pause). Strange, I feel funny for some reason. Oh well. A few weeks earlier though, one of the greatest civilizations, Egypt. Egypt in the midst of the beginning of a possible war. Let's continue on. We start with the king talking to his advisor and his wife. The main reason though, behind this war is that, Egypt desires to get their gold and freedom back from England.
Narrator Exit
Scene 5 Kingdom in Egypt
There is a chair and the king is talking to his advisor and his wife. After a few minutes, Flamenco comes in. Then Jin and Anita sit down. After everyone sits down, Sophia comes in and hugs Flamenco. She then sticks her tongue out at Jin and hugs her father.
King Mahmoud: Now, Sophia please be a good girl and say you are sorry to Jin. He isn’t a bad man you know. He does try to save Egypt and he comes from…where do you come from again? I forget so easily.
Jin: From Japan, a great nation like Egypt, of course.
King Mahmoud: Why thank you. You know Egypt and Japan are on good terms, Sophia; you have to take care of Egypt soon. You should be more diplomatic.
Sophia: Yeah, whatever.
Anita: Shall we continue discussing urgent matters? Perhaps sending Flamenco to London?
King Mahmoud: We should, yes. I can try to make Sophia a fine woman another time then.
Anita: (annoyed) Please do.
After this, you see Anita pretending to be rude towards King Mahmoud, while he turns his back.
Mahmoud: (being sarcastic) Anyway, onto urgent matters. Flamenco, I need you to send this letter, to King George. He is quite the hefty fellow, you know? If you get sucked in by his fat, you don’t come out alive. So, be wary of that. (sly smile)
Flamenco: (nervous) Please tell me you are joking right?
Mahmoud: (laughing) Don’t worry. (Pause) Well, I got the ship ready for you. You should go immediately. You have your orders right?
Flamenco: Yes, sire. I will leave asap.
Anita: Before you go, I made something for you. And her are some other things you can use on your trip. (She gets her bag and she gives Flamenco a watch and some food)
Flamenco: Thank you, your highness.
Sophia: Before you go, here’s my dolly. And here’s MY present. (She removes a piece of chocolate from her mini bag and gives her a sweet kiss)
Flamenco: Thank you.
Jin: Well go now. Here is the letter. (takes a letter out of his bag). Be careful with it and be sure not to lose it. It is very important that it arrives in England.
Flamenco: Understood.
You see Flamenco run off stage.
Mahmoud: So, Jin It could be a long day tomorrow. I'd advise you to get some rest.
Jin: I wouldn’t mind. It’s been a long day.
Anita: Sophia and I wouldn’t mind some sleep as well. Darling, why not come as well?
Mahmoud: (yawning) Might as well, then. Jin, please finish all the paperwork before you turn in.
Mahmoud hears the phone ringing.
Mahmoud: Hello
Rosetta: Boss, we found her, but she got away.
Mahmoud: Okay, get her tomorrow. You must find her. Understood?
Rosetta: Yes, sir.
Mahmoud hangs up phone.
Mahmoud: Well let’s go to sleep. Goodnight everyone.
Everyone exit the stage except Jin.
Jin: The king is easy to manipulate. Easier than I thought. I better report this to the Japanese conference. But before he gets suspicious, I will finish his paperwork. (While reading the papers, he forgets he can’t speak Arabic) What? I don’t understand this language. Oh well, I will ask someone to translate it. Hey you! Come here. (A servant comes)
After 5 minutes Jin leaves the stage and King Mahmoud enters.
King Mahmoud: Wow, Jin did all my paperwork. Now he can do all the paperwork for me for the rest of his life. Japan is so easy to control, we are only after their resources and Japan is so ignorant and odd. (Smiling at the audience and being sly) If he does anything wrong, I can make him take all the blame and my family will be innocent (while walking, he notices a letter) What is this? (angry) What?!! This is outrageous; he left for Japan without telling me? Hmmm.
Exit King Mahmoud. While this happens, the scene changes and then we see the next Scene, Japanese Conference.
Scene 6 Japan’s Conference
There is a big table and you see two people sitting down. Jin and the Prime minister of Japan, Mina.
Mina: Ohayo Jin san, how’s Egypt? How are the peace negotiations going?
Jin: Sadly, not well. We may be on the verge of war.
Mina: (terrified) That's not possible!
Jin: Sadly, Egypt and England seem to be on the brink of conflict. Prime Minister, I fear that if England sees us negotiating with Egypt they may use it as an excuse to declare war on us too.
Mina: (serious) I understand. Then we must treat lightly to avoid such an outcome.
Jin: Fortunately, Queen Anita of Egypt gives you both her support and regards.
Mina: (happy) Send my regards to her as well. Anyway, I want you to send this letter and cargo to Egypt. The letter has valuable information and the cargo is supplies for a year. If this doesn’t get sent to them, then tensions may rise. We don’t need that during this time. We need things to calm down and we need to show Egypt and England we are doing what we can to keep the peace.
Jin: Understood, well I better start going to Egypt.
Mina: Fine, but first send this to King Mahmoud. He has done many good things for his country and Japan. It’s quite important that he receives everything in a timely manner.
Jin: (curious) Anyway what is in this letter?
Mina: It does not concern you.
Jin: It’s alright but still I’m curious. Well I better be off then, sayonara.
Mina: Sayonara.
After this everyone exits and the Narrator enters the stage and bows to the audience.
Narrator: Thank you, this is a strange turn of events. I don’t trust Jin, he seems very sneaky, even in tense times. What is he up to? Well, I hope have you enjoyed this so far. The next scene we will see Flamenco meeting two lovers who are about to bloom soon. All of them have a same objective, to go to King George of England. Flamenco needs to give the letter to him, Albert and Anna needs to go there for safety from Rosetta and Dingo. Let’s see then what happens in the next scene of The Orphanage.
Scene 7 British meeting
Anna and Albert are going along a road. But when they reach a junction, they start talking to one another.
Anna: (confused) Do you know where are we going?
Albert: Of course.
Anna is wondering where they are. She becomes frightened and starts to cry.
Albert: (confused) What’s wrong?
Anna: (crying) I miss my normal life. I miss the Orphanage, I miss my friends. I miss my school and my best friend and the one person I can call a mother, Cita Rita. Rosetta and Dingo came to my school, and tried to force me to come with them. Why do they want me anyway?
Albert: I understand how you feel.
Anna: (confused) Huh?!! How?!!
Albert: (sad) I lost my mother at a young age. I don’t have any friends and I never went to school. My life had changed dramatically.
“I feel alone song”
Anna: I understand now, Albert. How far to your castle?
Albert: Not far now.
Flamenco enters on stage.
Flamenco: Excuse me; do you know where King George’s place is?
Albert: Of course, he is my father.
Flamenco: Excellent, what’s your name if I may ask?
Albert: My name is Albert and her name is Anna.
There is silence.
Flamenco: My name is Flamenco.
Anna and Albert: (Curious) Why do you want to see him?
Flamenco: To give him this letter.
Albert: Okay, seems fair enough. Anna, my father might know who your parents are.
Anna: (ashamed) Really, are you sure he won’t mind?
Albert: Of course not. He is a kind and generous man. He will love you.
Anna: (curious) How does he know you?
Albert: Connections.
Anna and Albert exit the stage, while holding hands. Flamenco stay on.
Flamenco: (ashamed) Oh my god! I hope she doesn’t find out the truth.
In the Castle.
Narrator: I don’t like that, awful fashion, this is a pig’ style here. Even in the home of the great King George? My, my, why can’t people be more like me and clean up after themselves? He needs style and class, I suppose.
Narrator starts to walk toward Anna. Anna and the Narrator meet, the Narrator smile and gestures.
Anna: (monologue) Who was that?
Albert: (worried) What’s wrong Anna?
Anna: Nothing, Albert. Just curious about something. Flamenco, what was that silence about before? You looked at me awkwardly.
Flamenco: I will tell you later, after I have given the letter to---.
King George comes in, from the common room.
King George: Come here, my son. And who is this fine lady you have beside you?
Albert: Father, she is lost and requires our assistance.
George: No, not the little scamp. The other one.
Anna: (Angry) Did you call me a “scamp”?
George: Yes, why do you ask?
Anna: You are arrogant and rude.
Albert: Anna, control yourself.
Flamenco: Behave Anna, let me give him this letter, then both of us can leave this mansion.
George: I can deal with her later. Who is this letter from?
Flamenco: The King of Egypt, Mahmoud.
George: He is a friend of mine.
Anna: (thinking) Mahmoud, where did I hear that name from?
George reads it. After skimming it, he is terrified of what’s happening it contains and calls for his guards.
George: (shouting) Guards. (shouting) Take these traitors, away!
They accidentally take away Albert.
George: (angry) No, not him you bumpkin-headed fools. Them.
They take them to the prison, where the truth is about to be revealed, to the audience. In the Prison.
Anna: (looking guilty) Sorry for being rude towards the king.
Flamenco: Don’t worry; I hope my king is fine.
Anna: What was in that letter, Flamenco?
Flamenco: A peace treaty, nothing more.
Anna: (shocked) I don’t understand then why the King was so angry. It doesn’t make sense. Does he want war? And besides, we’ll never get out of here.
Flamenco: (angry) We will. He will forgive us sooner or later. He has no grounds to keep us here.
Anna: (crying) Maybe. Plus, I was hoping he would know who my parents were. Now, I will never know who they are.
Flamenco slaps Anna really hard, the audience hears it.
Flamenco: (shouting) You will find your family. I know three of t--.
You hear someone walking in, it is Albert, and he has the key to the prison. Enter Albert.
Albert: Evening ladies. How’re you, I am going to get you out of this place.
Anna: Thank god, you are our saviour. Thanks Flamenco, for the hope you gave me.
Flamenco: (worried) Yeah.
All of them exit. You see the King entering.
George: (thinking) The truth is, Egypt has enough gold for us to take. So we can start the war, which would deplete their resources, and afterwards, take all the gold for ourselves.
Those three are creeping along, until they recognise, two familiar voices. Rosetta and Dingo.
Rosetta: Do you know where this Anna is?
George: Yes, she is locked away.
Dingo: (furious) That’s insulting, putting her there.
George: She had to go there. I had no other choice.
Rosetta: You had plenty of other choices. I should strike you down where you stand.
George: You wouldn’t.
Dingo: She would. Now hand over the girl.
Albert: Dad, don’t listen to them.
George: My son, run. You shouldn’t be here. This is my business.
Flamenco: What are you two doing here?
Rosetta and Dingo: We are here, due to Master Jin and King Mahmoud’s orders, to capture that little girl right over there. Anna, or should we say Princess Isis of the Egyptian Kingdom?
Anna: What did you say?
Albert: A Princess?
George: She can’t be…
Rosetta: She is. We have been looking for her for some time. She has been a hard one to find. Hand her over.
George: I can’t do that. I can use her as a bargaining chip now.
Dingo: I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
George: What are you two going to do about it?
They shoot King George. After seeing this, Flamenco grabs Albert and Anna, then runs as fast as she can. All of them exit except Rosetta and Dingo.
Rosetta: What a pity! We couldn’t get her again. Let’s report back, he won’t like this, I’m afraid.
Dingo: I agree. He may have our head for this. But, we have taken care of the King.
Rosetta and Dingo exit while the Narrator enters.
Narrator: Well, that’s a twist. Anna a Princess? Who would have thought? No wonder those scumbags were after her. And they murdered the King of England, too? That act could ignite this war instead of end it peacefully. England though, just wants revenge for their king’s death and also because of such trivial reason as well. That Egypt was first civilisation, England was jealous of that. How depressing!
Narrator exit.
Final scene of this Act, Anita’s death.
Sophia, is coming from the Bathroom, getting ready for bed. However, when she enters the stage, someone holds her tight and doesn’t let her go. Then she screams.
Sophia: (screaming) Mum, Mum, where are you? Please help. I need someone to help me, please come.
Jin: (thinking) Perfect, this is going as I planned. Really, it has worked wonders, you know?
Anita enters.
Anita: (shouting) What are you doing with my child?
Jin: (smiling) Nothing. But, if you want her, you have to come here and get her.
Anita runs, however when she gets Sophia, Anita is stabbed in the heart with a dagger and the man reveals himself soon.
Anita: (dying) Who’re you? Why…?
Jin: (laughing) I am Jin, the Japanese advisor. Now scream, until you bleed to death. I want your husband to see this.
Anita screams, while this happens, Mahmoud runs and sees a man dressed as a British solider, who is Jin.
Mahmoud: (angry) Who’re you? What have you done to my wife? Wait, I know that symbol on your arm. It is the flag of Britain. So Britain wants to get rid of the royals so there will be a revolution in Egypt? A clever plan, however it won’t work against me. You can take my wife, but not my country. Sophia, run now!
Sophia: Understood Papa.
She jumps on Jin’s feet, then he lets go of her.
Mahmoud: (yelling) Die English scum! I have summoned the guards to capture and kill you. You better start praying. I know your kind, the kind that doesn’t even care about the world. You only care about the gold and the joy of everyone suffering, and you make me sick. You just want to see the world burn at its own mercy.
The soldiers come in.
Jin: I don’t have time to stick around. Goodbye for now.
Jin jumps out of the window, not very high. Jin exits.
Mahmoud: Why did you have to suffer my queen? I need you, don’t die on me. Sophia bring the phone over, I am ordering Rosetta and Dingo t--.
The phone rings
Sophia: Hello, okay wait a moment. Dad, it’s for you. It’s Rosetta and Dingo.
Mahmoud: Hello? Report and tell me something useful.
Rosetta: We have found her, don’t worry, that’s the good part. But we don’t have her yet.
Mahmoud: Fine, return now. I have another job for you.
Rosetta: But, we can get her.
Mahmoud: Obey my orders, now. This is now a bigger priority.
Rosetta: Understood.
Phone call ends. Everyone exits while Narrator enters.
Narrator: The truth is revealed. I can’t believe it, war, war is coming. I can hear the drums now. We are all in grave danger. I didn’t want it to end this way, I hope God, lets us live and prosper. Let’s hope things get resolved and we can all live peacefully.
She bows her head. Narrator exit
Pink blossoms, everything looks pink, to represent Japan. Jin is wearing a Japanese kimono, he bows to audience, since it is his home country of respect.
Enter Jin
Jin: (laughing) I see now. A war is coming and everything will be under my control. There is no one to stop me once that little brat Isis, Mina and Mahmoud are taken care of. Then I would control the most powerful nations in the world. So long Egypt and Britain, you two were the best scapegoats ever, and your resources are going to be mine. (Laugh)
Exit Jin while Enter Narrator
Narrator: We are all losing to one man, and one man only. How could he have done this? This shows how greed can divide our unity into many pieces. I remember a saying, “Divided we fall, together we stand”. I hope England and Egypt can come together and end this treachery. Well I don’t know what Jin is up to still, but I am going to be snooping around a lot more. I know he has more planned. He is an evil man. Wait, what’s this? (she kneels down to pick something up) (shocked) Oh my! Well, this is quite something here. I wonder if this will play out in the end? Hmmmm…
Exit Narrator
Scene one War between Britain and Egypt.
You are hearing guns everywhere, the three characters, Flamenco, Anna and Albert, are running everywhere trying to avoid, it however, Anna thinks she should give herself up.
Anna: (guilt) I can’t believe it’s all happening because of me, Albert and Flamenco. I think I should leave this country and go back to Egypt because I am the cause of this war. If I am gone, then everyone would stop fighting.
Albert: I can’t let you go anywhere, Anna. I don’t think this is all because of you. There are more sinister things going on here.
Anna: Maybe…I miss Cita Rita.
Albert: Then, we should go get her. We should make sure she is safe.
Anna: Really? Please, let’s go, then.
Flamenco: I hate war. You two go on ahead and find Cita Rita. I am going to look for the King of Egypt.
Anna: But, we don’t know what to do in a war situation.
Flamenco: You don’t, but Albert does. In Britain, the Kings always teach their son military survival, so they can live on the battlefield if it comes to that.
Albert: You will be fine, Anna. I am here for you.
Anna and Albert leaves one way, while Flamenco leaves the other way. Rosetta and Dingo enter.
Rosetta: I don’t trust this at all. What’s the king thinking? We haven’t even left England yet. We could be killed, my associate.
Dingo: I agree. But by the tone of his voice, something bad has happened. I think it could be Anita. That would be a shame.
Rosetta: We need to find that girl and stop this ill-begotten war. I will have to go to the one person that may know where Anna is, Cita Rita. You find Mahmoud and reason with him.
Dingo: I understand. I will head out now. Goodbye my associate. I hope both of us will live through all of this.
Rosetta: Be well, my friend.
Rosetta and Dingo leave. King Mahmoud and Mina from Japan enters.
Mahmoud: War is starting now, Mina, have you heard what happened to the Queen?
Mina: The Queen?
Mahmoud: (crying) She was murdered.
Mina: What? That’s impossible.
Mahmoud: I know. The truth is I am worried for Egypt. I need someone to rule and to support my daughter Sophia.
Mina: Don’t worry, we will figure things out. The war is the priority, then we can work out the diplomatic problems. Another thing, have you seen my advisor Jin?
Mahmoud: Now that you mention it, where is he? I don’t trust him; he must be up to something. We must head to the port and work this out.
Mina: Before we leave, read this letter.
Mahmoud: The Queen, huh? I never would have thought.
Mahmoud skims the letter, and finds out the truth. Both of them exit. While Jin enters.
Jin: Perfect, war is happening, and now I have all the power in my hand. People say, power corrupts them; however, it can’t corrupt me because I plan my strategies. So long Britain, it was nice knowing you.
Jin exits. Cita Rita enters as well as Albert and Anna.
Cita Rita: What’s happening? I feel something dark is coming. I need to know if she is okay. Where are you Anna? I need to tell you the truth about your life and where you come from.
She hears the door bell ringing.
Cita Rita: Coming. (she opens the door and she is amazed at who she sees) What are you doing here Anna? Who is this with you?
Anna: Forget about that, we have to get away from here. War is coming, it is not safe here.
Cita Rita: Oh dear…
Albert: I am Prince Albert, son of King George. We need to go quickly.
Anna: Wait, Albert. Why is it that Cita Rita has a portrait similar to the one of your father in the castle?
Cita Rita: Because, Anna, I was in line to become the next Queen of England.
Anna: (shocked) What?
Cita Rita: I went out shopping in the common part of town and saw some boys stealing. I thought I could help them, so I bought them food. I was thinking that I should open an orphanage for children that were in need of it. So I never returned. Your father never mentioned me because he thought I died or was kidnapped. He looked everywhere for me and never found me in the end. I just didn’t want that lifestyle any longer and wanted to live a normal life.
Albert: I see. (crying) I am so happy I have one person of my family left.
Anna: We have to leave now. We have to find my father.
When they start to leave, the door opens and Rosetta steps in.
Rosetta: Hello, you will all follow me if you know what’s good for you.
Anna and Albert: Why should we trust you? You’ve killed or hurt everyone we’ve loved, except maybe the Priest.
Rosetta: I had to obey orders, I had no choice. My associate Dingo had to as well. We have to get out of here. Believe me, I am trying to make things right and the only way is to help you. Your father instructed me to protect you from any danger whatsoever, so I am obeying his orders. We now know that someone was pulling all of the strings, and we should have figured it out earlier. It was Jin, he wanted this, so he can have all the power in the world.
All three: Understood, where do we go?
Rosetta: The port. Let’s go.
All of them leave the stage. While we see a port, in the background we see the King and Mina and Flamenco and Dingo coming in, but from different directions.
Mahmoud and Mina: What’s the meaning of this? Why are both of you here?
Dingo: My lord, King George is dead. We killed him because Lord Jin said it was on your orders. He tried to make Rosetta and I rebel against you.
Flamenco: Such lies! You killed him due to your own agenda.
Dingo: No it was due to Jin, I swear.
Mahmoud: Silence! (Everyone hears it, even the audience) What’s the meaning of this, where is Jin? He needs to be brought to justice if this is the case.
You hear someone’s voice, coming from the background, It is Jin and his partner, a new one, a peacekeeper, named Gabriel. Enter Jin and Gabriel.
Jin: Good day everyone. This is Gabriel. He believes we should end this war.
Mahmoud: Jin, did you order the murder of king George?
There is a silence
Mina: Answer us, now! Answer to your crimes!
Jin: I don’t know what are you talking about…
Gabriel: We should not argue, we are one body and we have to take care of everyone. If we continue to bring war, then fire and anguish will bring us to an end that shall kill many people.
Jin: See, we should stop the fighting. It’s these two. Flamenco killed Princess Isis and Prince Albert. Flamenco should be the one to die.
You hear them coming in, Enter, Rosetta, Anna, Albert and Cita Rita.
Cita Rita: He is lying! The Princess and Prince live. And this letter proves Jin did order these heinous acts.
Mina: Is this true? Let me look at the letter. (she skims through it)
Jin: (gulp)
Albert: What does it say?
Mina: I haven’t finished yet. Arrest those two men, Jin and Gabriel for betrayal of England, Egypt and Japan. I hope they would have mercy on you from above. Prepare to be punished for your crimes.
Jin and Gabriel: What?!!! You will let us go if you want to see Sophia alive again.
Jin is holding a big Sophia doll, that looks like her.
Mina: No…
Mahmoud: They are only bluffing. Sophia was with me all along. Come on out, Sophia.
Sophia: Understood Papa.
Mahmoud: After you killed Anita, I made sure Sophia was with me. Have fun in prison.
Both Mahmoud and Sophia, stands on Jin’s foot and Gabriel’s foot.
Mina: I will give you 5 minutes head start. Run for your lives.
Jin and Gabriel jump out of the door and go out. Exit Jin and Gabriel. Then everyone start going out at same time, while, the Narrator comes in.
Narrator: Justice has prevailed, so has love but we have made sacrifices that are too much to bear. We hope the world will become a peaceful place for all of us. Sometimes ones treachery can impact many. Hopefully, everyone has learned their lessons….
Scene two: Japan and Egypt's final speech together with England
The end is near also chairs have to be place, and finally a desk, for the kings, and a new queen Mina.
Mahmoud: People, I have come here along with Queen Sonia of the British Kingdom and my new Queen Mina of Japan. We have decided that we are going to work together to make a new place for all of us, where we can love, share and be friends. Right my dear?
Mina: Yes, I agree, we, in Japan, are a great nation; however we need other countries to prosper also to make it easier to live and enjoy what we have left of this world. We want to leave it for our children and the next generation to enjoy. For example, my new step-children Sophia and Isis, are part of it. I am proud to call them my children for what they did for the country and for people’s lives. I wish the best for them.
Sonia: I am proud of my son for what he has done in his father’s absence. Since those terrible days things have begun to turn around for the better. The three of you, please come up here.
All of three come up.
Mahmoud: I am so happy. Where are my two generals, Rosetta and Dingo? Please come up here.
Those two come up.
Rosetta and Dingo: We are prepared to take any punishment for our crimes.
Mahmoud: Your crimes cannot be forgotten, but you were caught in the middle of this mess. You were able to search for and locate my daughter, which I am truly grateful for. If you two were traitors, like Jin, then you two would have ran away without telling us anything, but you were a vital part in ending the war. I thank you for that.
Mina: I feel like singing one more song. That would reflect this world.
What I have done song.
After the song Enter Narrator
Narrator: What a party! I am enjoying myself already. Oh, anyway, I have to prepare to go because now we will have a wedding. The King and Sonia have decided that everything would be complete if Anna marries Prince Albert. I have to go and get ready for the ceremony!
Exit Narrator
Final scene, Marriage between Anna and Albert.
Mina: Oh my, it is time. Both of them are coming. This is beautiful, her gown is beautiful. Everyone looks so happy. (When they reach the altar) I have a few things to say. This shall represent the unity of the world, together. Well let this ceremony begin. Love is a powerful thing, and I bring these two lovers together as one. They symbolize what is going to happen in the next generation. I have a feeling that this world needs you. Albert do you take Anna as your wife?
Albert: I do.
Mina: Do you Anna take Albert as your husband?
Anna: I do.
Mina: I now pronounce you two husband and wife, you may kiss the bride.
Everyone exit. You see them kissing. Here is a song. A moment like this
Narrator: That’s it for this part of their journey. The end has come and I praise you all with love and unity. Anyway, goodbye. Is this the end or not? I think it is, for now. See you people on the other side. The narrator fades away. Bowing that’s it.
