Look behind you...
Hello good people of AW! I haven't seen any thread about this yet, so let me be the one to say I wish everyone a prosperous New Year and much success in whatever you do. So, any big plans for '09, writing wise? Any specific goals you've set for yourself in 2009? Excited? My only plan (writing-wise) as the New Year draws nearer is to read more and write more in '09, neither of which I've really put any effort into during this year, so expect me to be dropping a few 'words' here and there in the SYW forums as I strive to learn more and improve my craft. Other than that, I hope 2009 will be better for everyone. It's the end of 2008, but merely a fresh beginning for 2009. My advice (not that I'm in any position to give any, but...well) is to forget all past failures during this year and focus on success in the coming future, whether that means upping your writing game, or organizing your work better or fixing what you did wrong this year or whatever. That's my two cents.
HAPPY 2009 EVERYONE!!!

Virector;
Any specific goals you've set for yourself in 2009?

1. First draft of my novel to be finished by 1st July, second draft to be finished by 1st September.

2. Gain MA in Creative Writing (Novels)

3. Write the Jack The Ripper short story that's been bugging me for the last couple of years.

4. Write the ghost story that's been bugging me for the last year.

5. Start working out the plot outline for my next novel.

6. Win the Lottery.

1. First draft of "The Enemy of My Enemy" for JaNoWriMo.

2. Revise all of my other first drafts.

3. 350,000 words by the end of the year (allowing for an "off" month here and there).

4. Nag the hell out of scarletpeaches to finish her WIP's.

5. Submit. Submit. Submit.

Hey Virector,

It's good to see you in such a good mood. Your plans for the new year sound excellent. Your advice is solid too. Here's to a great year ahead for all...in writing and in the other bits of life you enjoy in-between the words you write.

ETA: My plans are to receive acceptances from the manuscripts that are out there in the hands of publishers and agents...not that I have anything to do with the outcome now. (-;

Virector, I'm incredibly jealous of your good mood. :)

My writing goals are:

1. Finish the first draft of my WIP - revise. Query.

2. Write at least the first draft of a second WIP.

3. Possibly revise query of my recently completed WIP and re-submit. I think this is a good story...I'm not ready to give up just yet. I don't think.

4. Join a book club (and attend meetings)

5. Join a writer's group (and attend - and critique and let my own work be critiqued)

Ooh - I didn't know you were a Ripper enthusiast! I went through a period when I was pretty obsessed with the subject and it sparked a plot bunny that I need to sit down and work on when I get the time. Am always pleased to see there might be a willing victim, er I mean volunteer to take a look at it though!

Writerly goals (personal goals are a separate thing altogether):

1. Finish "Dracula meets Cinderella" (that's the high concept) edits and query, query, query!

2. Finish rewrite of mystery that Awesome Agent requested that I *still* haven't gotten to. :(

3. Finish tweaks for fantasy that small pub requested for February.

And the overriding goal:

4. This time, land a LEGITIMATE agent with a PROVEN TRACK RECORD of sales.

Me too!!! Every time I go to London I try to go on Donald Rumbelow's Jack walk. He is very cool! I am up to 8 times and I am sure it will be more as long as the timing works.

My goals for 2009:

1. Submit my current wip by the end of February.

2. Lose 20 pounds so I don't have to hide from the camera at the three weddings I am now required to attend.

3. Make significant progress on the next wip.

I am hoping to multi-task by spending the time I normally eat by writing. :D

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!!!!! Peace and prosperity to all!

I'd like to try to get back into the habit of writing more regularly. That's my main thing.

I'd like to finish my current serial, though I can't say how long it will be so maybe it won't even end this year!

And whenever that thing's done I want to start the next. No real problem there.

I'd also like to finish my rewrite of my novel that I started, but I don't know if I'll have time. Ah well.

Finish the rewrites on Tiny Violins

Finish the first draft of Mapping The Dream

Write a very rough draft/outline of the pre-hob book.

Write cleaner, better-plotted first drafts. Read more.

1. Finish the two WIPs I have on the go. One (fantasy, maybe higher-end YA) is 100k with a handful of scenes needing to be added to it, along with usual revision stuff. The other (YA SF) is on hold at 25k, and I'll get back to it once the first one is finished. Have both workshopped/beta-read and at least the first one under submission by year's end.

2. Once 1 is done, start another one - I have ideas brewing in my head, three possibles at the moment.

3. Write some more short stories - I did two last year. Send them out.

4. Read more. I set myself the target of completing 50 books in 2008 and achieved it. Let's do that again.
