It seems that so many writers get that drug-addicted sort of rush at the end--"It's almost done! Thank God!"--but I've found myself floundering.
I'd had this novel in my head for years but didn't start really writing it until July; now it's December and I have 89k, which is something I never thought I'd accomplish. I thought I'd take years.
I'm on the final chapter before edits commence, and I'd hoped (and anticipated) that I'd experience the gleeful, unfettered rush to pull me through. The thought alone of writing the end excited me. Now I'm here, and instead, I'm exhausted in every sense of the word. I've no fear of finishing this MS--I can't think of a thing I want more at the present time--and I love where this story has taken itself. And the truth is, I'm ready for the new onslaught of querying (and all its repercussions) and a new WIP.
But my mind is a perpetual whirlwind of confusion. Focus is suddenly not my friend, and it's not just in regard to writing. (I have no attention disorders or the like.) The only thing I really know is how my mood can affect how productive my writing habits are, and admittedly, I've been far from content as of late. Insomnia is also a sudden problem of mine.
Has anyone else been overwhelmed and disconcerted at the end of their first draft, instead of the excited rush? I'm perplexed at this turn.
