I've heard some different opinions out there and I'm wondering what you all think. We have several fulls and several partials with agents right now, is it possible that we'll get some responses sometime this month or should we prepare ourselves for the long wait till end of January??

At this point, I'm seriously considering getting in line to sit on Santa's lap to ask for an agent. Watch out kiddies, I've been a good girl this year, but I won't hesitate to cut you in line.

Check the nearby thread, called something like "is this a bad time to query agents?" We discussed this pretty thoroughly. Good luck! (One of the conclusions was that agents often catch up on paper work during the slow publishing time).

I'm answering here because your question is a little different from the other thread. If you have work out, getting a response now depends on whether or not the agent works over the holidays. Some do, some don't. Many take this slower time to get caught up and clear their desks for the new year.

I know a writer who started querying a week ago and has already received 10 replies. So work's being done. I think that a bad time to query is when your MS isn't ready, and a good time to query is when it is.

Who knows, you may get some responses before the New Year. However, I think the overwhelming majority of agents and/or editors are already on "vacation". The chaotic state of the industry doesn't help things. Lots of editorial changes, consolidation, layoffs, etc.

Some agents ask not to be queried during the holidays because they don't want the emails to stack up, but it's inevitable that people will still do it. On an agent's blog, she said despite what other agents may say, for her, she says just to send them now because there's no way she's going to let thm sit in the inbox to build up. When I can recall which agent said this recently, I'll post the link.
