I need kid slang for "Chickened out" (or if they still use that); specifically an 11 year old asian in Seattle.

he was too wussy to (do whatever)
he was a pussy (I hate this one, but I hear little boys say it all the time)
there's the ever popular, 'what? are you chicken? booooooock bock bock bock bock!' (those were chicken noises there)

My 11 year old son votes for Chickened out- he says he wouldn't use 'wuss' (But we live in a rural area)

"Chickened out" is still popular here on the East Coast of the US.

Behind you! Boo.
My 9-year-old says "chickened out." I don't think she knows what "wussed out" means yet, but it's likely things change from 9 to 11.

My 10 voted for "chickened out." They still say it (complete with bawk, bawk noises and flapping arms. Trust me on this one.)

You've got 10 kids?

Wow.

But at least I understand you a lot more now. :D

I hear "choked" sometimes (meaning backed down or lost one's nerve).

Dude, I tried to talk to her but I totally choked!

Just be careful when adding slang to your book. All the terms mentioned are fine, but imagine reading a book that had a sentence beginning with, "I'm real jiggy with..."

Jiggy? It went out in the 90's. Be careful that the type of slang you use is the type that will never go out of style:

Dude!

Cool!

Awesome!

Depending on your character, you might even could get away with narley. Just don't date your book cause it will show.

Good luck and happy writing! :D
