Dennis Yost, the smoky-voiced vocalist for the soft-rock group Classics IV from the late 1960s, has died at the age of 65. They weren't a ground-breaking rock group, or anything like that, just a competent commercial pop band with a number of hits, sugary without being offensive or pretentious. Yost's unusual voice and a unique rhythmic beat made it all work.
Turns out that Yost had a variety of problems including a long legal battle for rights to the group name, and a traumatic brain injury from a fall at his home three years ago. A sad ending for somebody who didn't deserve it.
