I went to submit my movies for consideration for distribution in Mumbai.

the corporates are giving a pleasant response. the old people who were in the business before the corporates came into picture are not even showing any interest in looking at my DVD. Indian film industry became corporatized just 4-5 a years ago. I have a few more corporates on my list to target.

the submission for consideration of distribution has begun.

I'm doing outlines for the 2009 screenplays and yes there will be 20 screenplays for 2009. (I can imagine your reactions as you read this), lucklily most are dialogue driven dramas and ultra low-budgets. now my target is not just to write a marketable screenplay but to write something that can be done on ultra low budget and then take it to distribution. hope you understand this aspect of screenwritng and then give me your feedback (no pun intended).

AFM 2009

I said I want to do AFM 2009.

so here are the year 2009's objectives:

. subtitle 4 shot films and create NTSC DVDs
. create website for the films
. shoot 4 more films
. edit them
. submit to Mumbai film industry Distributors
. suibtitle them and create NTSC DVDs
. attempt to obtain the visa and go to AFM 2009
. write 20 scripts and get them proof read
. generate ideas for 2010 screenplays

(ah! got to do a great deal of work)

now my target is not just to write a marketable screenplay..

You mentioned that you've been talking with many distributers .. what have they told you about what what types of films they are looking for?

Have people in the industry given you feedback on whether your current screenplays are marketable? This will let you know whether you should continue your existing approach or change tactics.

no more screenplays

I'm not approaching distributors with screenplays but with finished films. that is why I had mentioned low budget or ultra low budget screenplays that can filmed on small amount.

so far I 've been making submissions but have not yet made follow ups. you give them some time to watch and then decide what to do with the movies right? they themselves have given me some time and date after which I can do follow ups.

I am hoping discussion will be made amidst senior members of the companies and a positive decision in my favor will be taken.

I'm confused. Your post was on the 27th. The Mumbai terrorist attacks started on the 26th. When did you submit? Last week? And if you are living in Mumbai, what are you doing posting about screenplays on the 27th? I watched the news coverage all day and I don't even live in India.

Either way, I'd expect a long wait. Last I heard everything is still pretty shut down over there for the moment.

strange because

strange because the in movies corporates are shown as a**h***s.

yes the attacks took place on 26th.

I went to one corporate and two other distribs on 26th in that attack area. then went back home.

the next morning I woke up I got a phone call from my aunt that attacks have taken place and I'm not supposed to go out of home. I obliged. two days later I wanted to go out but my sister-in-law asked me to postpone it to monday or tuesday. so tomorrow I'm gearing up to submit but this is a different area. so far only 3 submission have been made, but I have only 4 more on my list. all of them are corporates some with the reputation of enouraging new comers.

BTW, glad to know the world has some knowledge of what is happening in India. our neighbor who can't manufacture a bicycle on its own is distributing AK47's to anybody's anybody and the world stays mum. it even has a missile with a range 2500KM. all that my neighbor has given to the world is the computer virus. two harvard rejects from that country injected a program into US defense system and it took 1 year to figure out what exactly was happening to their systems. later it was called. VIRUS.

no more discussion on politics. admins lock the post if there is anything about politics. the world doesn't support Indians. It is said that Post Indian Independence we Indians have a bad repute in the west. everybody in India says the west hates Indians. although I'd like to have a first hand experience at it because my gut instincts say the grass is greener.

I'm very angry with what happened in Mumbai. just pardon me for my bad state of mind. most of the people in Mumbai are angry at the politicians and at themselves as to why they failed.

I really should apologize in advance for this post, because I have a feeling it will be viewed as derogatory or overly negative in approach, but I just kind of have to ask this: Is aceinc1 a joke poster? Like, are all of his posts just meant to be absurd and overly ironic? Is this all a big in joke I am not part of?

I really didn't want to say anything, because I figured maybe he just didn't have a good grasp of the language or there was a jarring cultural barrier. And that's fine, if that's the case. I have nothing against Indian people/culture, and if this is an honest and genuine poster, then I am sincerely sorry for questioning you in this way. But stuff like this:

I'm sorry that's just absurd. TC, is this a screenplay idea? Or are you seriously asserting that this is real? Virtually every single line in that paragraph, all the way down to the acronym, is just flat out silly.

Can anyone please provide me with some element of clarification in regards to what the hell is going on in this topic?

I don't know what's going on in this thread either but it's quite entertaining!

I think anyone who can knock off 20 screenplays in a year - I'm assuming they must be shorts, or mostly shorts - is going for the scattergun approach, because it's pretty difficult to maintain real quality throughout one script let alone 20.

To write 20 features in a year would entail back to back writing of 2.5 weeks per script which allows no time for rewrites or polishes. I'd be concerned with quality. Ace? Is this being unfair?

BTW, I resumed making submissions today, I dunno why, but corporates are giving a good response. Just one thing that I learnt by the way of making mistakes is that don't make unsolicited submissions after 2:30PM in offices be it screenplay or completed movie. let the meeting over lunch be your last meeting for the day and then wind up.

they want to be given a feeling of exclusivity although they know that the submitter will make multiple submissions, still it kinda appears they wanted to be assured they were exclusive through your body language. Bollywood is new to corporates

(second hand knowledge follows, as far as Hollywood goes, Spielberg made his career at Universal, Lucas at Fox, Coppola @ paramount <read the Godfather series scripts he even writes the paramount logo in them>, Cruise @Paramount, yes, then have gone to other studios but exclusivity seems to be the key.)

I am hoping this company will still wanna be in the hunt as I want them to be.

back to screenwriting, when you are done with outline and you have the habit of visualizing every shot before writing it in words <without camera angles> then 20 scripts should be no big deal. it is all about the outline, BTW, I have my backbone as a proof reader who is even doing a line-by-line critique and giving me final notes that just saves your ass as you get objectivity and that is worth every cent you spend on that reader.

and yeah, that incident about Harvard rejects ...

there goes nothing

I am gonna start my quota of 20 screenplays for 2009 from tonight alongside my completed submissions.

I have already generated 6 ideas for 2010.

achievements of 2009,

completed my 16 screenplays, directed, produced, camera operated, edited 4 films on the basis of outlines. now I am busy subtitling them for AFM and on a concurrent basis submitting to Indian companies.

I'll have holidays after completing 4 more films (a trilogy and another film) by March end 2009

the name 'virus' was thought of by Len Adleman in 1983 -- On November 3, the first "official" computer virus is conceived of as an experiment to be presented at a weekly seminar on computer security. Fred Cohen first introduced the concept in this seminar, and his PhD supervisor, Len Adleman (who is also a biologist), proposes the name "virus".

Ace, none of us are likely to understand how you work, or be able to offer you any useful feedback.

The movie industries in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the rest of the English-speaking world just don't correspond to your experience: people just don't film from outlines here, for instance, unless they're working with professional improvisational comedians or actors.

Did you try to get hold of any of the books aimed at helping US independent filmmakers navigate the US distribution market that I recommended in your last post? Because I think they would be very helpful for you to read before you try to crack that market.

And computer viruses, as Joe says, did not originate in Pakistan. See here for more info about the first computer virus.

Ace - as you have probably the highest output of anyone on this board and a work ethic to dream about (literally) I wonder if you could give us a taster by pasting the first ten of one of your features on the 'Share Your Work' forum and then provide us with a link on this thread so we'll know to go and look there. It would be brilliant to learn from someone who has achieved so much, so quickly. Remarkable! :Hug2:

man! I was already told by one of the admins not to post 10 pages of 10 screenplays at the same time. just go the SYW and look for my posts, the threads have the titles "the returning of my father","beta Israel"," grey", "code "x"", "soulmate", "halucination", "dead letter", "husler."

That's because for the most part if someone isn't learning they will make the same mistakes over and over. By posting one piece of a script, getting feedback, listening to the feedback, applying the feedback not just to that script but to others, you'll reach a higher level. Then you go in for feedback again and tweek it more, and more and more and so on until it starts to look good. By posting ten different scripts at the same time you'll likely get very similar feedback and be wasting a lot of time when one will do to head off most of those mistakes. The point of feedback is to also bring your writing to a higher level so you aren't writing the same quality or lack thereof whichever is the case every time you put your fingers to the keyboard.

Hey dude! You know, like, I kinda read two examples of your most fine product and I was, like, in reality, to be frank and not puttin' too fine a point on it, without embarrassment, ridicule, love or indeed kharmic insolence, Fellini-esque remorse, divorced from reality or otherwise...blah...blah...what was I sayin'? Oh, right, hold on, I think I've nearly squeezed it out (gotta push a little harder what with the cold weather) I kinda didn't really, you know, DIG your product, man, but probably because I just saw an obsession with the Indian caste system, an inability to produce a cogent or readable idea in the written form and a limited work ethic meaning pumping out lists of possible scenes doesn't come close to anything I could see that resembled a screenplay but then I'm probably missin' something because your output is so vast that there must be a jewel in the morass of confusion however I didn't find it.

Must look harder next time, I said to myself, as I hunted for the corkscrew. Sorry, Ace, but it's more like the three of clubs.

Very good link. Ironic that it was launched on a Apple.

I work for a anti-virus company whose database catches 1000+ threats a day for research. Per DAY. Well, someone is writing these things - malware, adware, trojans, rootkits. Imagine if we rounded up all these virus coders and made them write apps for, I dunno, medical equipment. Or developing transportation technology. And they could do it - under very close scrutiny, sure, but 99 percent of these people are motivated by money, or glory (one virus author said he wanted to impress a stripper he met). They're not killers, they're not pirates or Mafia (not the majority of them) - they're starving scientists, if you will. If you turned that knowledge away from slowing down progress into speeding up progress. We'd be living in Utopia.
Too idealistic for this crowd.

corporates about to make it 4:3 in their favor

okay, the submissions are going on. I have the last lead of a corporate for tomorrow. then on it'll be 4 corporates who were approached and all accepted and 3 old timers who didn't even consider.

I have to figure out that myself as to what made corporates accept while others reject without even wanting to accept my submission.

I'll be heading back home for the rituals that need to be performed on the first anniversary of the demise of my father. then I'll come back and start the follow up business.

even if one corporate decides to pick up my films then the ball game will change. keeping my fingers crossed.

I never said computer virus originated in Pakistan. the harvard rejects before returning home planted it into the US defense in the 1960's. they cannot be credited as they could be punished. and it would a shame for US defense that foreigners broke into their systems and it took them 1 year to figure out what they had done to those systems. (similar to what happened in the US when Yuri gagarian became the first man in space and the US couldn't pull the man on the moon mission with Neil Armstrong and they did an act (still a controversial matter).

there is one more incident on computers. this is about hacking. a German in Germany found a way into the US defense system and then went on to gather the data. he was caught and he revealed he had not sold the secret to any party. after verifying his statement, the US defense paid him to build a security system for their defense network. these are known as "legal mafias".

if you are at a cyber cafe and you see anybody sitting there for 3 or more hours then the sites he is visiting need to be monitored.

Thought I would point out that the digs were aimed mainly against conspiracy theorist doctrine, and as Ace did make the claim that the moon landings were a fake, simply responded in the manner I would have when disagreeing with any 'conspirator' on this.
