Need some recommendations for zombie/post apocalyptic fiction

This may not be quite what your are looking for, but John Joseph Adams (from Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine) just came out with two anthologies this summer, "Wastelands" and "The Living Dead". I own both. "Wastelands" contains awesome post-apocalyptic stories and was a great read and maybe a great way for you to buff up on a bunch of different apocalyptic styles in a shorter period of time. I have not read "The Living Dead" yet, but I went to a reading of it at World Fantasy Con, and the reading rocked. The stories again differ strongly stylistically, so this could be another great study of a lot of things you can do with zombies and maybe help stretch your imagination.

"Day by Day Armageddon" is pretty good. It's written in journal format and follows a guy as he tries to survive the zombie infestation.

Get Brooks' "World War Z". Yes, same author as the Guide.

Yeah, "World War Z" is pretty much the best thing ever. I also really love a trilogy of books by Peter F. Hamilton: The Reality Dysfunction, The Neutronium Alchemist, and The Naked God. I have heard it described as "zombies in space." It's a different take on traditional zombies. They take over lots of planets and spaceships and space stations.

There's another trilogy by David Wellington, starting with a book called Monster Island. I haven't read it but I have heard many good things about it and it's on my to-read list.

Agreed on World War Z. Incredible book. I even got my husband to read it, and he's not a big fiction reader.

Brian Keene writes great zombie fiction. Dead Sea (zombies on the water!) is probably his best.

For more unconventional zombies (they talk; I believe they're more or less supernatural zombies from hell, which would be an awesome band name), he's got The Rising and City of the Dead.

Also, anything by Max Brooks, as previously stated.

I have not read them but I hear Wastelands and The Road are pretty good.

You might get a more thorough response in the Horror forum. Those peeps are all over zombie fiction.

The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. It's about killer plants rather than zombies, but it's one of my favourite post-apocylaptic novels.
