Um...you know, nowhere in this article does it say that plagiarism was proved. You're taking an awful lot of assumption as fact here.

I seriously doubt that a novelist of Cela's stature, a Nobel laureate, would have to steal from another writer.

I see. So, based off of no more information than this relatively small news article, you're running full speed ahead with the assumption that this man is a plagiarist.

That's ridiculous. Innocent until proven guilty--and the burden of proof in plagiarism cases is extreme. I tell you what--why don't you provide me with a verbatim text from both books that would indicate the possiblity of plagiarism and then we'll go from there. You can't copyright ideas.

So instead of an actual, rational argument, you just go for an ad homin attack? Excellent skills of deduction. Are you one of those frustrated authors that likes to blame the publishing industry for your own lack of success?

*slaps forehead*

Good Lord--we have another one of these?

Jerry--you need to research and understand the legal bases of plagiarism a bit more before you attempt to pass judgment. Seriously. This case has already been in court once and the judge ruled that there was no evidence of plagiarism.

That's a good question right now.
I have set this ENTIRE WEEKEND, beginning TODAY, aside to catch up on things I'm behind on. I have declared that no one in my entire house is even allowed to talk to me when I emerge from my office to get a drink or use the bathroom. Since the weekend is starting with a reported thread, I'm extending this edict to include a zero tolerance policy on all nonsense -- and this thread is nonsense -- in the Novel forum.

In other words, do not make me come in here. :)

This thread is now closed and, after an admittedly cursory review of Jerry's posts, he has earned a 3-day time-out.
