Following thread offers links to artists, writers and some of the icons in the comic book industry. Tried to avoid wikipedia here unless it was a last resort for information. Not meant as a catch all; suggestions for updates are welcome via PM to moderator Jason.

There's also a really comprehensive list in this article for The Beat:

Some have linked websites, some don't...but it's a great place to get started if looking for "women in comics".

Great to see women being represented here in a strong way! I'd like to add my wife:

RENAE DE LIZ (http://RenaeDeLiz.blogspot.com)

Artist:
Peter S. Beagle's "The Last Unicorn" (NYTimes Best-Selling graphic novel)
Anne Rice's "Servant of the Bones"

Creator of WOMANTHOLOGY (http://Womanthology.blogspot.com) which is a massive 350-page anthology created entirely by women and published by IDW publishing. All proceeds to charity. It raised $109,000+ on Kickstarter! Over 150 women on that book! It's really something special. A piece of comic book history.

/End gushing husband mode/

I saw that on Kickstarter! What an amazing project this looks like. Tell your wife congratulations on the fundraising.
