I agree with starrykitten, only if it's necessary, don't have characters randomly cursing, only if it's in their personality or if it fits in with the scene. 
No, it won't kill your story, in fact it may add to it if it conveys the way your character speaks, and reflects conversations one would have in real-life.
I suppose you shouldn't go overboard though, like Dr. Dre or something, in which case your story will die horribly & needlessly. =P

Swearing every now and then (more then than now, actually) works for me. But I have found that the fewer f-words or whatever the hell you want to call them, the better off you are. And when you do use one, the impact is greater.
Then again you can take the Norman Mailer or Hunter Thompson route and use an excessive normal of expletives. They seemed to have thrived on it and the readers loved it. But in this day and page, fewer contemporary writers are taking this route. As somebody else so succinctly said: "Less is More" is the motto nowadays.
