Shame on Joss Whedon. How could you go back to Fox???

Desperate times, perhaps?

People do business with the people who offer to do business with them -- in other words, Fox wants to try again with Whedon, so Whedon is willing to try again with Fox. I know feelings are still bruised about the "Firefly" cancellation, but from the network's end, they were spending more than a million an episode on an unproven show with no stars, and for a while, "Firefly" was actually in the bottom ten network shows in terms of ratings. No network anywhere is going to deal with that kind of situation for long. ("The X-Files," also on Fox, was able to build to a considerable cult following from a Friday night berth and then to a top-10 hit on Sundays after spending its first season in the ratings basement -- but XF, unlike "Firefly," started out dirt cheap to make.)

My point is, both parties here are taking a risk after having been burned before.

The Same network that ripped the soul out of Firefly by showing episodes out of sequence before canceling one of the top 5 Sci Fi series ever.

If I ever meet the Fox Executive responsible for canceling Firefly I will hit him in the groin with a sledgehammer.

As a male, I have serious trouble reading this without cringing.

But to be serious, I doubt FOX will make the same mistake twice. No one is that inept.

Joss Whedon's gotta eat!

From what I understand, Eliza Dushku (hope I spelled that correctly) has a development deal with Fox. She and Joss came up with Dollhouse together. In order to work with her, he HAD to go with Fox.

Plus, there are all new people at Fox; the ones who screwed him over before are gone.

That said, the new executives have already screwed the show over, and it hasn't even aired yet. They moved it from Mondays, paired with 24, to the Friday deathslot, paired with the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Plus, they made him redo the pilot episode (very much like they did with Firefly).

It's a business, folks. You're going to see this sort of stuff all the time.

Is it true it's going to run on Friday nights?

I don't know where, but I remember reading something somewhere about how Joss basically said the whole Firefly debacle was the fault of both parties - yes, it was Fox, but it was also about the contract they had. So he said if he ever did it again he would make sure the contract was what he wanted.

I could be totally making that up, but it does appear to be coming out of my memory somewhere.

The fact that Dollhouse is being aired on FOX is very old news.

As Caromora said, it's being paired up with The Sarah Connor Chronicles on Friday nights, starting early next year.

So yeah...someone can be that inept.

However, I wonder if there wasn't a development deal with Fox and Whedon when he took Firefly to them. Y'know, where they get first refusal rights at any new project he comes up with.

And let's face it. UPN took on Buffy because they were desperate to draw in an audience and figured it was going to be the tweenie/geek market. So they took on Buffy as a mid season replacement hail mary. They were as surprised as anyone when it took off and made UPN.

Recall that prior to this the only real 'flagship' show that UPN had was Star Trek Voyager (which Paramount offered to stations ONLY if they switched to their fledgling network...the first time since the original series that a Star Trek was dedicated to a specific network and not syndication. Even then Star Trek was produced by CBS and aired by NBC).

The WB, not UPN, which took on other shows than Buffy to establish itself as a teen network. UPN only got Buffy after a nasty bidding war after it's fifth season.

A little off topic but not really...

Every time I see his name, I think of Buffy and my heart drops into my stomach. I miss Buffy.
