Favorite Songs-sort of a giveaway.

I'm not one of those writers that can write with loud music playing the background, so Enya is on a lot when I'm writing. My favorite new find (for nonwriting time) is the Killers. It reminded me of the times when I used to go dancing every weekend. That quit once I got married. It's not my hubbie's thing. But now I can dance at home!

I don't generally write with music on in the background either or else I find myself writing the lyrics into my book. LOL!
However, I do sometimes listen to music I know really, really well and don't listen to the lyrics because I know them by heart. And I will put that one song on repeat and listen to it over and over again. Some of the songs I do that with are Broken by Lindsay Haun, Time is Running Out by Muse, and Angel of the Morning by Juice Newton.
Hmm, an oldie, a country song, and an alternative . . . I guess I have eclectic tastes.

I know! I've got a favorite station on the radio!! Gotta have Hair Nation ... must listen to Hair Nation ... it's on right now!! Yay for Sirius Radio!! There's something about Hair Bands that makes them a good background for writing medieval fantasy ... @_@ I know, I'm strange.

Try Sigur Ros. They sing in Icelandic/gibberish so you don't end up writing the lyrics into the books.

I have songs that are representative of each manuscript, which top each hours-long writing playlist.
"Let Go" by Frou Frou, "The Con" by Tegan and Sara, "Amsterdam" by Peter Bjorn and John, and "Plowed" by Sponge for Book1, among many others.
"Golden" by My Morning Jacket, "Slow Show" by the National, "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star, and "Something Pretty" by Patrick Park, etc., for Book2.
Sometimes, though, I'll get on a kick for a week with one song, and endlessly repeat it. It's like an addiction -- you know it's bad for you (because eventually you'll ruin the song for yourself), but it feels so good! A few recent obsessions have been "In Your Head" by Your Vegas, "This River Is Wild" by the Killers, and "With Me" by Sum 41.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Dresden Dolls to get my brain ticking properly. I don't know why. The subject matter doesn't often mesh with my WIP, but Amanda's tone of voice tends to bring me right into the head of my MC: not angry, just a kind of powerful want.
One of my favorite genres of music is the Celtic/New Age group. For those of you who like Enya, I'd recommend Dagda and David Arkenstone. They both capture the same feel, but with a little more primal edge.
I primarily like my music to be instrumental when I write, so those are good ones, as well as Bob Kilgore, a very, very talented acoustic guitarist.

It's got to be Hollow Hllls by Bauhaus but unfortunately when I'm writing, I'm drawn to the music of Hans Zimmer (especially The Gladiator soundtrack) and John Williams. Also, Loreena McKennit, This Mortal Coil and Dead Can Dance. Enya sometimes feels to "light" as in floaty for me, although I really loved it when I was a child. I'm a drama queen, I know.
John Williams is always a solid choice. I like him when I'm writing something a little more of a flair towards the theatrical though.
For some reason when I write, I always end up with a sort of sound track. I listen to random music and then one particular song will spark some inspiration for a scene, so then I listen to that song whenever I'm working on that particular scene. It's usually always instrumental music though.
Same here. I find it difficult to concentrate on writing something when there's lyrics involved (well at least lyrics in English, I lurvs me some Gaelic verse.)

Plus, a lot of the time, my books are inspired by a specific song that just sparks an idea. Currently, my favorite band is Paramore, who I've love since, like, 2006, when "Pressure" was on THE SIMS 2.
But, I'm really odd, so all of my main characters have a theme song that, to me, just describes part of them or their life.
