I tend to have a good discriminate taste when it comes to looking for what to read next. I more or less know what I do and do not like and very rarely does a book pass my filter that disappoints. Two books stand out as falling miles short of expectactions: The Corrections and Catch-22.
The Corrections started out well enough, but then the author tears me from the story with meandering, overblown back story that is horribly out of place. I gave it shot after shot, but I couldn't stand to keep reading it for another half hour or so until my next class.
Catch-22 found its way onto my to-read list because of the acclaim. It started out promisingly, then everything following that felt like a rehash or full blown deja vu. I guessed that was on purpose, so I trudged on, yet soon thereafter I stopped. I couldn't take anymore.
What notable books have you been driven to give up on and put down?
P.S. I imagine this has been done before, but the search doesn't agree with me due to its four word minimum and the fact that it fails to count you or the as words.
