Since Counselor is new here and all, and since we haven't really discussed this that I remember, I'm wondering what recently released rhyming picture books people have read and enjoyed lately. Sure it's a tough market as we hear all the time, but some are making it through. Of the ones you know and like, what hooked you?

Some favorites that pop into my mind (I can't say they're all especially recent--I'll have to make a stop at the bookstore before I add those):

Zin-zin, a Violin (I love the colorful illustrations as much as the text)

Chicka-chicka Boom-boom (reads like a song--SO fun to read aloud)

Bear Snores On (not sure--just like it)

yeah, that's one pretty "old"--they have a newer one, Chick-Chicka One Two Three

these are definitely new, there are at least four in the series now

I'll think of some and post when I have time.

Ironically, if you go into, say, Barnes & Noble, and pull down any new picture book, a huge number of them rhyme right now. Most of them are really, really good.

B&N is very tolerant of grownups parking themselves in the PB section for hours... this I know first hand...

I recommend stopping by.

Haha--yes they are. The PB section and a nice hot cup of cocoa on a cold day. Mmm. I wish I was there now.

I also remembered that my kids love Ten Hungry Monsters. I didn't like it much the first time I read it, but my kids are nuts for it. I think it's the combination of rhyme plus action plus engaging pictures.

For the pure joy of poetry and what language can do, anything by Jack Prelutsky. He's amazing.
