I am new to the forums (fora?), but not to AW generally. I'll be exploring the postings for a while and adding my bit where I can. Freelancing is my second career, after a long one in insurance claims, but don't draw any conclusions, because I started young. From that experience I am creating a piece of fiction, now at about 30,000 words. Think of Chandler's Marlowe on the streets of mid-80's Chicago. Not too much, Chandler, I hope.
Publication so far has been limited to features in smaller markets, like regional magazines and a literary quarterly. Fortunately my patron (spouse) pays the mortgage, no small committment in Orange County, CA--thus my greeting: We live about 10 miles from the gates of the Magic Kingdom.
My belief is that writing is mostly self-taught (Chandler again), but starting as late as I am, I'm trying to learn from others who've gone before me. Thus the forum.
Time to find a bar down on Harbor and hoist a cold one with Mickey.
