I just found this interesting program.

It counts words in your WIP and tells you which ones you use the most... The trial version does not allow you to copy data from the output box, but that doesn't stop me using the snip tool :p

Here's my results:

Let's see yours!

I think I need to cut down on "the"'s. 5.5% of my WIP is the word "the"...

I would imagine most results would be about the same, with minor differences relating to genre. Romance would have more love and horror more blood. :)

This sounds like a quick and easy way to drive yourself absolutely bonkers.

Hmmm ... you might be looking through the midrank of occurrences and notice you've used the word 'absolution' or 'extreme' or 'regimented' ten times, you being overly fond of that word.

I have a subscription to Autocrit. When I'm finished with my WIP and have done my first revision (when I'm happy with the story). I run it through Autocrit about 6,000 to 8,000 words at a time. I use most of the reports and adjust my work as I deem necessary.

In anticipation of those who believe that I am allowing a robot to write my MS, I am simply allowing the computer to find and point out questionable words, wording and phrases. The program is not writing the story for me. I find this is a major time saver and is much more accurate than I am at finding potential errors.

One complaint I have with the service is that their server does not seem to be large enough to handle the traffic. I have encountered "Server Errors" several times, when trying to run text through the program. So far, this has not been bad enough for me to regret spending the $50 for the annual subscription.
