Hi All,
It's been a long time, I know but I have been very busy building up a writers group in Second Life. The extraordinary thing is that I have 600 members, all excited about writing and wanting to talk about it and share their work.
My group is based on a sim called Milk Wood. Which I designed and arranged myself and of which I am very proud. It's built on a Scottish Lakeland estate (well a virtual Scottish estate) and is incredibly beautiful with flowers, trees and assorted wildlife (animated). We have weekly events - poetry and prose nights - where members stand up and recite their work through the medium of voice (microphone and headphones); authors come and share excerpts from their books or short stories (some are published some are not but all are welcome) around a stone circle, in a vintage clubroom, haunted cemetery or aloft a stone roost.
There are areas where folks can display their work both in text or book format - we also have a library full of books published by our members. Folks can click on the virtual books and link to Amazon or the group members website.
We have links to many other Second Life writing groups - one in particular is run by one the Star Wars authors. Incidentally Terry Pratchett will be in Second Life in the next week or so and you can talk to him and ask questions, either through chat windows or through voice.
We are now also linked to the real world and well respected journalism school - THE LONDON SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM. They offer reduced rates for our members.
ALL OF THIS IS FREE!
I do hope I don't get in trouble posting this but I am so excited by this wonderful medium and miss some of you terribly - please won't you come and join so we can chat and have a virtual cup of tea together?
Anyway, I miss you all and promise I will try and pop over here at least once a day to see what you are all up to.
