Did anyone watch the premier episode? I did and wasn't impressed. The team was never introduced nor were there roles explained. Patrick Jane, the Mentalist showed off his skill early in the show, then when he solved the second murder, the audience wasn't privy to what he saw or how he did it. Very bad forensic boo-boo too.

I'll watch "Fringe" next week.

I had wanted to watch it but I maxed out my DVR, so I couldn't. Although from the previews, it looked like nothing but a more serious version of Psych, so I'm not sure why I thought I might like it.

I was hoping someone would start this thread.

Actually, I liked the show a lot, and I'll definitely be tuning in to watch. I thought it was refreshing not to get that huge info-dump on each character in the beginning. Patrick Jane is charming and clever, although I did think the bad guy was kinda stupid for falling for such an obvious trick. Hopefully that kind of stuff will get ironed out in later episodes.

The show also reminded me a lot of the early seasons of Profiler, which I really enjoyed.

Plus, Simon Baker is seriously hot.

I missed it, but I wasn't really looking for it. The ads made me go, "Oh, it's Psych without any humor. What's the point?"

They are rerunning the pilot tonight. We watched Fringe on Tuesday, so this gives us a chance to see if the Mentalist will be a better option on Tuesdays. From what I've heard, we'll be sticking to Fringe.

It's a bit like Psych... but where Psych falls down on basically being Monk 2.0, this show seemed somehow fresh. It's way way way darker than Psych, and most of those USA network shows are very 'happy' shows.

The Mentalist was anything but happy. He's still got a happy face drawn in blood over his bed. I mean, cmon. That was a pretty sweet way to end a pilot, if you ask me.

Not really my kind of thing, so probably won't watch it (looks too scary - yup, I am a wuss). But I had to chime in and say I think the title of the show has got to be one of the worst titles I've seen in a long time. Maybe it has something to do with that when I was growing up the very un PC slang of the time was "that's mental", still . . . The Mentalist? Are they serious? Sheesh.

I dont see any Monk 2.0 in Psych. It seems pretty fresh to me.

The Mentalist looks like a complete ripoff down to the way they flash in on the details he sees.

I enjoyed it. Mind you, I'll watch just about any crime show, fictionalized or real, so meh.

LOL -- that was the main reason I watched!

But I also liked his lines -- like when he described the annoying CSI guy -- and he said, "He irks me. He's irksome." You NEVER get to hear anybody say that!

I also liked how they portrayed how he's dealing with his demons -- they didn't beat you over the head with it, which was refreshing.

I thought it wasn't bad, but I'm not a fan of Robin Tunney. She irks ME! It's mean, I know, but I've felt that way ever since she was on Prison Break.

Love Simon Baker though.

Mmmmm... totally agree about Simon Baker and his hotness. It was a definite draw for me. Plus, I think his character was really charming and charismatic, I found myself cheering for him the whole time.

I can't wait to see where the writers go with this "Red John" storyline. I totally got chills at the end of the episode when he went home and laid down underneath the smiley face mark.

Hmm not a fan. Thought it was a total rip off of Psych/without the humor. As a psychic I was turned off immediately by their little clip in which he state, "there's no such thing as psychics." I didn't watch it.

Plus, I'm still angry over Moonlight

. So even though there appears to be a psychic in Ex-List, I will not be watching.

I just watched the pilot episode last night (love having episodes online!) and I was surprised. I didn't expect to like it, but I liked it a LOT. Took some time to watch Fringe, too, and liked that a lot as well.

Two more shows for me to DVR this fall!

P.S. The irk/irksome line cracked me up, too.

I also didn't expect to like it, but really did. The main character is charming; I liked him from the first moment he spoke. I think all the characters are well-drawn and likeable.

I'll be watching again.

I liked it. I really didn't need more shows to add to my DVR, but Simon Baker is a pretty big draw.

Couldn't find a separate thread for this show, so ...

Anyway, last week's episode had an amazing ending ... watch it if you can. I love this show, because of the writing, and the acting. If I ever wrote a t.v show, I would like it to be this good. Anyone else a fan?

I never miss it. Well, hardly ever. Lots of layers in this show. Plus, Patrick Jane isn't hard on the ol' eyes.

I love it. Thank God basketball is finally over, so CBS will quit pre-empting it. I refuse to watch any sport where the final thirty seconds takes an hour to play, much less that interferes with my favorite show.

Also a fan of the show here. I love how the show has a very definite formula for each episode, and yet still manages to be very interesting and unique. Patrick Jane and friends are some of TV's more compelling characters.

While I think Simon Baker is charismatic and slick (if a bit less adept at an American accent than, say, Hugh Laurie), I'm distracted by several things about this show. First, his last name is "Jane," which necessitates the other characters calling him Jane all the time. That's a girl's name.

Second, Robin Tunney is kind of funny looking. For example, the way she walks is...odd.

Perhaps I'm finding things to nitpick about it because I'm just not that into it. My husband loves it.

Patrick Jane's last name is the butt of several jokes in the show (many of which are initiated by Jane himself).

And I think Robin Tunney looks fine!
