I'd written four novellas and hadn't thought of publication but then I started writing one which I knew stratight away was right. It has been published by a small press in Australia. I wrote the sequel and that is only just published by the same publisher. Both books will be published in Canada/USA next year by a different publisher.
Wrote my first, got rejected by everyone, shelved it, wrote another, realized it was missing something and shelved it, re-wrote the first and got rejected by everyone again. Went to a great conference (Surrey International Writer's Conference) and had my eyes opened. Came home and wrote number 3 or 4 (depending on how you view my second rewrite) and sold that as a three-book deal.
I only count the novels I wrote that were "professional" for lack of a better word. The dozen I wrote from aged 12 to 20 are so bad I can't included those
Sold my first "novel" as an interactive story to the Sci Fi channel's web site. Then after it ran it's course there I sold it to an e-book publisher. The e-book publisher liked it so much they put it in front of Daw books. Daw offered me a contract. I am on book seven now.
My first book was published by a micropublisher. The second didn't sell at all (agent did try but it didn't have its wings yet). The third hasn't seen the light of day. The fourth is in search of a good home.
i'm in the process of writing my first one at the age of 13. it's 20000 words in and probably going to reach 80000 when im finished, there is so much more to happen in the story, i'll tell you if it gets published
Sold my first, second and third. But they were to small press and I don't count those, since I feel I haven't really debuted until my agent lands a contract with a notable pub house. In my eyes, POD without distribution does not count anymore.
