Dead Like Me

This series has been mentioned in other threads, but damn it's time it got a thread of its own. I know, I know -- it's too late -- it's gone -- it's undead...

But my niece, bless her, gave me the first 2 seasons on DVD for my birthday a couple of weeks ago... and they are sooooooo good.

Let me say that again, they are sooooooo good. Other series like Reaper and Pushing Daisies just don't fly this high.

I love the show (death by toilet seat - priceless). It was on here at 5 am CST on Fox Saturday and Sunday (sometimes Sunday am repeated Sat, sometimes not). Since I do not sleep much and there is only paid programming on at that time (I do not have cable) I would watch this show. It switched off, sometimes Poltergeist the series was on or this one - running for 3 or 4 month stretches between switches. I love Mandy P and started watching for that reason (I could read a book otherwise).

I miss that it is no longer on. Now some other thingy is on that I do not like at all. I keep checking in case I hit it again one day.

I totally dug it. Question, though: is it just me, or does Ellen Muth (the actress who played George) look a little emaciated to you? Towards the end of season 2 I was getting sort of worried about her.

Yeah, Dead Like Me was one of the few comedy/drama series I looked forward to. It had promise. Unfortunately, the first sign something won't last - it's good! Cavemen was so terrible, I'm surprised it didn't last forever. That's usually how television works. I'll go back into lurking mode again. Sorry.

I loved this show! I don't have the DVDs, but it's shown in syndication on a couple of channels around here and it's still just as good as I remember.

Rumor is that a straight to DVD movie of DLM is slated for 2009. If the movie does well, the show will return.

I've also heard that, though due to scheduling conflicts, Mandy Patenkin would not return as Rube.

I was a great show, though -- pitch perfect tone and great writing.

When the show first started, and I had Showtime for free, I loved it. It was unique, funny and I couldn't wait for the next death to see how it played out. I also liked the fact they needed regular jobs as Grim Reapers.

But alas, I don't have Showtime, and my cable consists of about 15 stations.

Most of all, I love George's darkly cynical voiceover that drives the whole show. Rube and the others are great, but without doubt it's Toilet Seat Girl's story.

I also liked George's musings about how much she learned about life (or death) at each episode's end. Beautiful writing and poignant stuff.

George spying on her family is another great sub-plot. You see how her parents and sister deal with life after losing George.

Totally agree and had to reread "Toilet Seat Girl's" story. I forgot how she died.

I like how she spies on her family too, even though at times I think it's sad.

I thought I saw something about the show being put on regular television? Or maybe I had a few too many Mojitos.

Huge fan of this show. An amazing story for George and I'm happy to say it wraps up quite nicely considering it was unfairly canned. Sounds weird but I think I liked it because they swore - a refreshing change for TV.

And the Roxy/Hill Street Blues mini parody in one episode in, I think Season 1, broke almost all of my ribs. It was so subtle, I barely even realised they were doing it until the end.

Oh, God and Delores in hysterical. Especially as she goes on and little snippets of her past (drugs, sex, restraining orders) get revealed and her language gets filthier.

Oh! And of course, there is a film in the works!

It's a direct-to-dvd thing and set a couple of years after the second series and the only cast members not back are Rube and Daisy, I think. The Rube character is gone but there's a new actress playing Daisy - Sarah Wynter - who was awesome in Season 2 of 24. Coincidentally her sister in that season was the actress who played Daisy in the TV show. Freaky, no?

Anyway, the film keeps getting messed around with, the release date pushed back and so forth but it should be coming 2009 and I can't wait.
