Every "romance novel" I've ever seen has appeared to be authored by a woman. It seems odd to me that there would not be any men in the genre... but maybe they use pen names.

Norman Roberts anyone?

There are a few male authors who write romance under female pen names. I remembering reading/hearing somewhere that Jennifer Wilde is actually a guy. Super-Agent Donald Maass has also written romance novels, but I don't think anyone knows his pen name.

I know there are a few male members of my local RWA chapter, but I don't know their names, nor do I know if they are published under their names or pen names...

There's always Nicholas Sparks. And I remember a few years ago Fabio wrote a romance.

Yes. Examples that I have read: Steve Miller, Leigh Greenwood, Micheal Little. Several romance pen names are actually couple/co-authors.

K. N. Casper has written a lot of books for Harlequin, and has now been allowed to move to using his real name, Ken Casper.

I think I may be more apt to pick up a romance novel written by a male (just to see what goes through their heads).

... Then again perhaps I wouldn't want to know. :D

At RWA nationals in Frisco, I had a long talk with a man who writes romance. He said he got a lot of stares and several comments about how unique it was to see a man amongst all those women. I wonder what an agent or editor would think? Seems to me, good writing is more important than the gender of the author.

I'm male, and my current work-in-progress is a romance, but it's a M/M romance, so I'm not sure if that counts.

Generally speaking, I think women are better at writing romance than men are, and I'm not sure if men writing romance is exactly common.
