A 30k word slipstream novella, more geared toward Fantasy/Western/Romance than toward Science-Fiction.
The plot of The Hollow is: A pack of bandits ambush a messenger (named Dmani, the narrator and protagonist) and kill his horse, but he is rescued by three outlaw mercenaries. The mercenaries need a guide to a town that Dmani says he's going to anyway. He's forced to go with them because he'd be alone and has no horse and an injured knee. What Dmani finds in these men is at first companionship, which soon desolves into utter depravity.
He eventually must choose to either escape the mercenaries and allow them to continue on ravaging civilization, or to stop them somehow. In order to stop them, however, he must first become them.
I am willing to read most genres, but I prefer:
Mythic Fantasy
Literary Horror (no, not the Deconstructionist serial killer)
Urban Fantasy (without vampires, please)
Western
Experimental Literature and prose poetry
Slipstream
Dystopian
