Okay, I know that was lame. Got your attention, though, didn't it? :snoopy:

I joined this board a week or so ago and have been lurking for a while watching the threads spin out. You are a bright, impressive crowd! I've been a newsletter subscriber, AbsoluteMarkets Premium mainliner, and general hanger-on for a couple of years now. I never realized there was a forum attached where I could spend the time I might otherwise waste in frivolous grocery shopping and watching Extreme Makeover. I am saved!

In case anyone's interested, I'm a high school special ed teacher, a horse farm owner, and I've published a book via iUniverse. That last has not been a bright spot in my writing career. At least shoveling poo makes things grow, and teaching gives me something from which to gratefully retire. POD, while it's good for a laugh and an occasional article in the local paper with accompanying pictures of my many chins (can newspaper photogs take pics from any other angle?), it's primarily an embarrassment as I hawk my paperback Amway-style to anyone who might cough up the ten bucks discounted price.

Thanks for letting me in. I look forward to a hugely entertaining learning experience at your capable feet!

Howdy and welcome, Schoolmarm! So glad you've joined us. I'm sure the others will be along any minute now with witty comments and cheerful banter. :D

Oh, and seeing as how you own a horse farm and all, do drop by the Writing about Animals forum!

Behind you!
We like shiny new faces--even if they're gleaming with sweat from shoveling horse poo. Great to have you join us!

Maryn, looking in vain for the welcome mat

Wow! A forum for animal writers? I'm excited! I'll go look for it in a minute. Thanks for the grand welcome! I'm delighted to be here and can't wait to dig in and start posting pithy stuff that (hopefully) no one will remember when I'm rich and famous.

More teachers!

Hi, Diane and Kappie! Thanks for identifying yourselves as fellow teachers. Most public school educators are a little reticent these days. :thankyou: I don't know about your necks of the woods, but in mine it's open season on teachers all year 'round.

I'm enjoying the boards already. I can tell this is going to be fun!

:D Hello and welcome, Schoolmarm! I have a special affinity for teachers as my daughter is a newbie at it. She's in her second year of teaching and still loves it! It's a tough job, special ed even more so! You're a very busy lady! Glad you're here.

Stormie and Sharon, pleased to meet you! I've often wondered why more teachers aren't writing. It's nice to know they actually are! We're certainly among the most verbal of all professionals, wouldn't you say? :Soapbox:

On the other hand, one of the worst books I've ever read was written by a fellow educator, so maybe I should just keep my mouth shut.

Triceretops, I'd give you and your horney buds 'way more than 40 watts! Sixty at least. :poke:

Don't y'all be impressed by the "high school special ed" thing. I started out in pre-school and moved up the grades as I became less and less interested in who had whose smock and who needed a trip to the bathroom before recess. High schoolers are interestingly wacky and cabaple of (sort of) dressing themselves.

Chelle, I'll email you.
