I'm scouting for a location here. I want to set a story in a (preferably not too large) town in Mexico. It needs to be reasonably close - an hour or two's drive - to a range of hills. The hills have to be unforested, unpolluted and with prominent red rocks. As red as possible, in fact.

It would also be good if there was a particularly narrow track leading up to the hills where a vehicle might, say, plunge down a ravine, but most of all it's the red hills I need.

Thanks in advance.

Why not just make one up?

Unforested hills are common enough in the desert areas of the northern states ... Sonora for example. But that puts you into the desert which might not work.

Further south it's piney woods or jungle or cultivated.
