Omniscient.

Omniscient done well can be brilliant. Done badly, it will suck - the same way as will any other POV done badly.

If you are enjoying it, then obviously you consider the author 'pulled it off'.

Not so popular? Not sure why you say that. It's not the easiest of POV's to 'pull off' for beginners.

Excerpt:
The POV here? From what I've thought I've learned, this is the not-so-popular third person omniscient POV, isn't it? This book is pretty darned captivating to me, so am I wrong, or did the author manage to pull it off in this case (opinion based, I realize)?

As always Captshady remember, ANYTHING can be done if done well. There are no rules in writing, guidelines yes, but ultimately if you can pull it off, it's doable.

Tough to judge outwith the context of the rest of the book, but I think that particular technique sucks like a Dyson.

This doesn't really do anything for me. IMO, it's a bit more elegant, but it's essentially a recycling of the pulp fiction "but what he didn't know...da-da-daaaaa" schtick. Of course, if you're enjoying the book, it's working for you.

That is indeed third person omni because the narrator is giving information that the character has no way of knowing. Someone outside the story who has all the information is narrating the tale.
