I was wondering if any of you would be able to recommend to me books that have a similar feel to JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. Written in first-person, narrating certain events that take place within a set period of time.

I would like to get a general feel for how stories written in such a manner are usually handled, whether it be through the context of journal entires, letters written, or just a narrated guide through a course of events.

One other book in this vein that was recommended to me is Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower, for example.

I'd be really, really, REALLY grateful if any of you had some recs for me! :)

Another recommendation

I suggest Looking for Alaska by John Green and God and I Broke Up by Katarina Mazetti.

All the best,

Leanne

Definitely read Peter Cameron's Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You. It's got a very Catcher feel to it. I've already read it several times this year so far.

Oh, and read Frank Portman's King Dork. It's actually about a kid who spends a heck of a lot of time thinking and talking about how much he HATES Catcher, but I think the style of the book will appeal to Salinger fans.

Hmm. I'd second the recommendations for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You, and Looking for Alaska. I'm curious to see what else folks suggest... I've loved Salinger's books since my early teens but am having trouble thinking of anything with a similar feel. I'll give it more thought though.

King Dork was written about my high school and home town. I knew Frank's dad (also Frank) back in the day...
