Writers Conferences

Hi all:

This is driving me crazy and I thought maybe you could help me.

I have done a bit of research and found two conferences - in February 2009 -
which I'd like to go to.

I write romance at the moment, but I write a bit of mystery suspense thriller and I'd love to write more. I need to jump into one of those conferences in February, while I still have money.

The two are:

1. Love is Murder- in Chicago; and

2. San Francisco Writers Conference,

or if anyone has any suggestions of any they like or heard about.

If I'm in the wrong thread my apologies.

Maybe I should also put this message somewhere in Writing Novels too.

I've heard great things about LIM.

I went to Surrey a few years back and thought it was great. Price-wise it was pretty reasonable. There were some great authors there, like Elizabeth George, and some great agents, including Donald Maass.

I'm a wannabe, and was thinking about looking for a conference myself, and found out about this one:

It's in April, not in February, though. I guess they're having what they call a 'writer's police academy' this year. Anyone ever been? Or know anything about this one?

Josie, I do believe Mysterygrl is being mysterious and made an acronym for the Chicago conference you mentioned, Love Is Murder.

Initializing things tends to throw me, too.

Ha ha!! Thanks Chase. Which reminds me of a story. I'm Canadian and years ago I worked for the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
I must say you Americans have got the market cornered for acronyms!!
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out acronyms for the govt departments.

But they forgave me

Never say never, but I seldom use initials when whole words will do. I'll grant bureaucrats here in the states love 'em, but you can't lay all initialization off on us.

I just finished watching British Broadcasting Corporation's Prime Suspect series, with Helen Mirren as a policewoman on the rise in Manchester, England. It was a blizzard of unintelligible initials.

Great mystery series, though.
