We would like to announce that Raphael's Village (http://www.raphaelsvillage.com/index.php) is open for submissions.

Raphael’s Village is a site dedicated to improving the worldwide village one person at a time. As such, Raphael’s Village was developed to help our community heal by maximizing our relationships with each other and with our readers.

We welcome writers of all faiths, nationalities and persuasions, but ask that you please follow our Writer’s Contributions Guidelines (http://www.raphaelsvillage.com/stati...08082414522362).

We are currently accepting professional submissions of humor, poetry and fiction for our Healing with Humor, Quiet Contemplations, and The NEW New Curiosity Shoppe forums. Please review our specific guidelines for these forums and take a look at our existing content before submitting. (Note for the Horror Hounds -- we don't want "dark" anything. But if you have horror that's not dark, feel free to submit -- we want good writing that doesn't go against our main mission, and other than that and no "dark", we're open to it.)

We are unable to pay for contributions at this time. But hope is the thing with feathers and we do hope to be able to fly in the future.

If you have any questions not answered via the guidelines or the site itself, please send an email to [email protected]. Be sure to reference "RV: Submission Question" in your subject line.

Not sure I understand....they take horror?

From the guidelines they appear to want up lifting types of work.

Am I miss reading this?

We do want uplifting, but some horror can BE uplifting -- and horror is often considered a metaphor for life problems: war, disease, family pain, etc., which is why we're open to some of it.

We'd take "The Birds" but not "Saw", if that helps.

A dark, evil place.
And for those who don't know, Jeanne is the fiction editor for RV. :)

There's a whole variety of writing I've seen at the site including humor, poetry and non-fiction too. Even if your horror stories are usually too dark for the site, I expect you write things from time to time that aren't in the horror genre. If so, give them a look-see and give them a try.

And, by the way, I'm betting she'd just love to see a story about a vampire who was afraid of the dark. :D

Actually, that would be awesome. You writing that one, Haggie-poo?

*ponders running an "Afraid of the Dark" contest...perhaps in October...*

Oh Jeanne, do it. That sounds like it would be an awesome-fun contest. I almost asked last night if you were one of the editors there, then had a good look around instead. Nice place.

*cough* Um...did you look around because you thought I WAS an editor or because you thought I WASN'T? ;)

Have to talk to the Sr. Editor about contests, but seriously, we'd love some non-dark horror, and humorous horror shorts that are being unloved elsewhere might be quite loved at Raphael's Village. (Hint, hint...I'm also the Humor and Poetry editor, as well as the Fiction editor.)

Well, I've only written 500 words on it so far, so I guess I'm not all that attached to the idea. So if anybody else wants to run with it, feel free--over my dead body. :e2teeth:

Oh Haggis, now don't be greedy. Doesn't a little friendly sparring get your juices flowing faster? But don't worry, I won't write one word unless Jeanne says go. :D

And Jeanne, I figured you must have the inside scoop so, instead of asking, I just clicked. Simple as that. I didn't do much reading, though. It was late and I was about cross-eyed. I did see all your humor spots, though. Yes, nice. I'm going to give funny a shot. No promises. It don't come easy but don't tell Haggis.

We are droolingly eager for humor. And non-dark horror. And poetry. And really, any short fiction, especially the stuff getting a lot of "doesn't fit" responses.

Won't know about contests for a few more days. It's not the contest. It's the fact that, other than publication, as of this moment, we have no prizes. LOL. So, gotta see what we might be able to do and then I'll advise.

But, don't let the lack of a contest stop you or anyone else from sending something our way. :D
