Dark Knight withdrawl?

Does anyone else have this problem?

I just saw Dark Knight last night for the 7th time, and I already can't wait to see it again. It seems the more I see it, the sooner I need to see it again. I couldn't even take a bathroom break, because I don't want to miss anything, and I practically know the whole movie by heart. I keep going to see it because it's greatest comic book movie I've ever seen, and I know there is only a finite number of times I will able to see it in the theater. But even if I knew I could see it in the theatre for the rest of my life, I would probably still keep going.

Has anyone else ever had a movie like this?

Have you seen other films to break the cycle? I'm sure you've seen them both, but The Departed and The Prestige (yay for Bale/Nolan films) are DK-ish and awesome.

I had a rather serious addiction to Sweeny Todd, Howl's Moving Castle and The Matrix. I knew it was serious when I couldn't look at my fiancee while she was on the phone without a distinct fear that something bad was about to happen.

Lost and Delirious and Secret of Roan Inish probably went a long way toward burning out my last DVD player

Right now I think I am having this with There Will Be Blood. I have watched the final scene around 15 times on youtube today

I was like that when The Fisher King came out on VHS.

There Will Be Blood definitely deserves a second or third viewing--it's rare for me to revisit films much these days, but this is the exception. I absolutely agree with Maxmorden about the last scene--great fireworks and yet so abrupt. Then, when you're done, look for the Saturday Night Live I Drink Your Milkshake! sketch.

Wow, and I thought TDK was MY favorite film. Yeesh. The most I've ever seen a movie in the theatre is The Fifth Element, which I saw I think a total of five times. Not only was I a teenager at that point with completely disposable income (no worries about feeding myself or paying rent), it was the coolest thing I had ever seen up to that point. Also, it just so happened that various friends wanted to go at different times.

The only other movie I've seen multiple times is Kenneth Branaugh's Hamlet. That is correct, I sat through all four hours TWICE.

No.

What makes you think I've ever seen a movie more than 7 times in the theatre?

I mean, okay, so I would go out and buy boxes of Cheerios just for the free movie coupons on the box. And I think I ate mostly hot dogs and popcorn for three years running.

And I know where just about every theatre is in Southern Ontario.

But it's not from seeing the same three movies over and over again. No ways.

(BTW, you need to watch Dark Knight 14 more times to beat my record.

ETA: In theatres only! Can't count the times I've watched all or parts of the DVD of RotK. Weekly, at least.

Are you serious???? That sounds like a challenge...my record for one movie is 11 times for Trainspotting!!! But that was a limited release, and Dark Knight is probably going to be at the theater for a while, so I think I can beat that.

I have seen The Departed, and I love it! I do need to see it again. The first thing I thought after watching Dark Knight was, "Wow, this is even better than The Departed!" They are somewhat similar in style, and I was gushing about The Departed for weeks after I saw it, too. I have heard The Prestige was good, although I'm really not a fan of Christian Bale. The only time I have ever liked him was American Psycho.

Half a dozen times in the cinema before the enfeebled dolts who run it bumped it from the schedule in favour of Ice Age 2. Idiots.

Sin City probably would have if I'd seen it at the cinema.

It depends how you count it. 21 times for Return of the King. 19 times for Fellowship of the Rings. 17 times for The Two Towers.

Or pretty much once a week from December to July for three years running.

But it's okay if you beat it.

The Hobbit has yet to be released. And this time around, I have unlimited Cast Passes.

14 times for Fellowship Of The Rings. Other than that, usually two is my limit. Oh long time ago, 5 times for My Beautiful Laundrette.

But Yeshanu, don't you work at a movie theatre? Or am I confused about that. As such, I wonder if your record should stand?

I classify my DK withdrawl as a need for a great Villian.

The Departed is a good film that may help.

Lord of War, 24 (any season), and Constatine might help also.

But I agree, seen DK three times. Can't wait to buy the DVD. But everytime I see it, i'm so sad that I will never see Heath Ledger's perform an encore role.

God he was so brilliant.

I was a full-time student on limited income for the three years I'm talking about. I only started working at the theatre a couple of years back. It was like coming home...

I have seen The Departed, and I love it! I do need to see it again. The first thing I thought after watching Dark Knight was, "Wow, this is even better than The Departed!" They are somewhat similar in style, and I was gushing about The Departed for weeks after I saw it, too. I have heard The Prestige was good, although I'm really not a fan of Christian Bale. Give The Prestige a try. I think you might enjoy it. I consider it a film that deserves multiple viewings.

I've seen it 5 times for the same reason and I'd like to see it one more time before it's out. I'd rather tire myself on this movie while it's on the big screen than when it comes to DVD. I mean, once it's gone it's gone and this movie was just an awesome movie to see on the big screen. I feel like a kid when I watch this movie, because I stare at the screen in dumbfounded gawking awe for the entire film. lol

The last movie to do this to me was "The Matrix Reloaded". I saw it like 5 times before it went out of theaters.

Yeah, every now and again a movie hits me like that and I'll watch it 100+ times (literally) on DVD. But after the first couple dozen I'm not really watching, I'm using it to think about other stuff.

V for Vendetta is the all time champ, but I also do a lot of Dawn of the Dead (2004) and, weirdly, The Time Machine which I didn't even really like all that much.

I think the thing that gets me about The Departed or The Dark Knight or V for Vendetta is that the characters are going through some serious pain and darkness so rarely captured by hollywood.

I contend that the public is starving for that type of realism in film.

I get so tired of the 'hero' overcoming all odds to save the day with some twist of fate and 'luck' brought about by his special skill while the brilliant villian becomes a moron in the last 10 minutes of the film.

Even though I was routing for the MC in the Departed or V for Vendetta, the ending was the perfect ending for those films.

I was like this with The Prestige. I couldn't get enough of it.

Of course I've seen TDK four times now, so I'm a pretty low-ranking member on the "Rabid fans" list.

The only other movie to have that affect on me... well, it wasn't even a whole movie... it was the light-saber battle between Maul and the two Jedi in Phantom Menace. I saw damn near every movie that came out that summer, often times just so I could skip out on the movie I paid for in time to hop into Phantom Menace during that scene (no way I was going to sit through that whole damn mess again) and then either go back to the movie I paid for or just leave.

I'm going to see Mama Mia tonight, and it feels weird. I keep thinking, "I get to see Dark Knight tonight!" because I'm going to be in a movie theater. It's like a Pavlovian bell.

Wow, I've only seen it 4 times, and my friends all think I'm nuts.

Then again I did obsessively track the movie starting in... last september? And I have most of the lines memorized... And have honed my Joker voice to the point where if I use it in the dark my girlfriend will just start hitting me...

I agree. I own the Presitge and the Illusionist.

And I feel you on the fight scene.

Speaking of fight scenes, a lot of highschool kids have put together some impressive light saber battles on you tube. Many times, the choreography is better than hollywood. (especially if you factor in creativity and lack of million dollar budget)

Just go to you tube type in Light saber fights and whoola, you'll be swimming in em.
