I had the Blue Jays-Yankees game on this afternoon, on CBC-TV (national network of record in Canada). Between innings, the text of a plug for MLB.com's Internet feed of Jays' games appeared on screen. It started with:

"When your on the road, follow the Blue Jays on ..."

This is becoming more frequent everywhere, but I never thought I'd see it where I did.

I've seen mistakes like this on BBC News 24. If even the BBC can't be bothered to check its grammar, I figure the battle is almost over.

Behind you!
Contact the Blue Jays. Seriously. They probably don't want to look like buffoons to people who paid attention in elementary school.

I've contacted local car dealers selling van's and truck's, an online retailer using its' as a possessive and failing to capitalize the first words in sentences, and a regional stereo chain whose hand-lettered comic-book-like ads always screw up your/you're and sometimes to/too, too. They fix things, for a while. The online retailer was terribly apologetic, offered no excuses, and thanked me for pointing it out.

Here's who you write to:

John Matthew IV

Toronto Blue Jays

You might mention the price of beer at Rogers Centre, too. Outrageous! ;)

Mistakes happen. It's not the end of the world as we know it. Actually, mistakes not happening would be the end of the world as we know it. (EDIT: I agree with Maryn, but I'm a man of inaction.)

These same mistakes were common in newspapers and magazines and even some hastily-produced books of 200 years ago.
