yea or yeah

Example:
"Are you telling me you think I look fake?"

"Well... yea, a little."

OR

"Well... yeah, a little."

I know I could use 'yes', but thats too formal for my characters in this type of dialogue.

The dictionary I consulted said they both mean 'yes'.


On a different note, I always thought yea was like,

"I got you a big present."

"Oh, yea!"

How would that type of 'yea' be written?

Yeah = casual, informal yes (pronounced yeh)

Yea = old-fashioned yes (pronounced yay)

Yay = a cheer

Up dere in Minnesota, where I grew up, ya know, we just use "yah", which makes life real simple, ya know:

"Ya want some more lutefisk, Lars?"

"Yah, you betcha. That's some real fine lutefisk, dere, Helga. Ya think it's gonna snow tanight?"

"Yah, for sure."
