I need help writting a new poem. I don't even have a title yet.

Hmmm... let's see...

I wish I could write him a po-him
That way I'd have something to show-him
Coz without a verse
Things might get much worse
So please help me write a new poem
(but I don't have a title)

Could you be a bit more specific about why you want to write a poem, the subject you want to write about, the reason you want to write the poem about the subject you want to write about, and who the poem is to be written 'for' - then I (or someone else) might be able to help.

I usually find a title after I finish writing. It always seems like I end up changing the title if I had it before I wrote the piece.

What do you want to write about? It's kinda' hard to help without you giving us any specifics, ideas, whatever...other than you need help writing a poem.

Same as others, when I write something, I usually find my title after I've written it.

Happy to help, but you're not giving much to go on...

So am I. I fail to grasp the need for a title before beginning to write. When a need to write a poem takes hold, I write the poem and I may or may not give it a title later. It could easily end up being titled, "The poem I wrote in April 2005". What am I missing?

This is my way of helping. I'll give you a title and perhaps you can come up with something. Here you go - title:

Breaktown

(inspired by a song) get creative

If it doesn't work - don't bludgeon me. ;)

Here are a few suggestions:

1. What issues currently please/annoy/humor/sadden you

2. As you are going about your daily life look around you - there are poems everywhere.

3. Look at the poetry game thread in 'writing poetry' on this site.

4. Like KTC says do a 'freewrite'. - Just start typing and see what comes.

5. Think about love affairs - not necessarily yours.

6. Think about loneliness

7. Think about geography and landscapes

8. Think about nature

9. Think about spirituality.

10. Look through a dictionary for words that you like.

There are plenty more ways to inspire yourself. These are just a few off the cuff.

The Curse

The curse

It was the Poet's curse,
But could have been worse,
With no title in mind.

Don't worry said Blue,
This verse will do,
Better than Life's grind.

The end

........................................................................

What about a poem dealing with drama?
Pick up a paper and start your poem...
Then the title willl follow.

She had a glitch/walked with a little hitch/but often had to pause/and it was only because/for hours she would stand idle/trying to come up with a title.
