So, I've slipped up again, and lately have been having a lot of trouble with telling vs. showing. Is there any books I can read that are good resources to help with this?

Me, too. Especially in third person.

I try to use italics to signify thoughts to one's self. Dialog is tough with one person in a scene, unless he/she's talking to himself.

I guess thoughts and extra dialog helps a lot wherever you can put some.

Just in case people don't know--you might want to look at the AW Amazon store, which has a fair number of carefully selected book on writing listed. And yeah, if you buy something from Amazon with this link, the Water Cooler gets a tiny percentage of the purchase price.

Description and Setting by R. Rozelle is pretty good too.

It's available at that Amazon AW store link up there.
