Hoh yeah! Bootcamp yell! Macho chest banging! Fist thumping!

Or, you know, not.

HI. I'm Dien online, Dana IRL, but you can address me as either. I'm one of the eighteen rough rocks polished to a fine smooth sheen (or maybe just beaten up) by the turbulence of the Greater Clarion River, and I'm quite happy to be here with all you... writery folks. Ayup.

Um. Am I supposed to tell more about myself? If so:
I'm 24, female, white, identify as asexual, Californian, with a lot of heavily fandom- and comic books-oriented writing and reading. There. That is all you need to know, especially since I can't give backrubs online.

Deccydiva: Clarion is a writer's workshop that focuses on SF/F. This was its fortieth year. It's taught by professionals writing in the field and is essentially a six-week boot camp for speculative fiction writers.

Bartholomew: As was said, there WILL be more Clarions. Several of our attendees got in on their second or third or fourth time applying. Just keep trying!

Shweta: Haha, I DO give backrubs, but you'll have to grab 'em quick. In about nine days I'm moving away from SD.

Thank you all for the welcome and the congrats!

Welcome, Clarionites! I hope you had a great time. I've been following the Adventures in SciFi Publishing podcasts about you (and I recognise some names above :D ), and it sounds like it was a fantastic experience.

Hi:hi: Clarion people.

(I didn't know what it was either, so thanks for the explanation)

Hello everyone, and thanks for the Welcome, Shweta!

I'm a newly minted Clarion graduate as well. I haven't tried the macho bootcamp yelling and chestbanging yet, but it sounds great. Here, let me try: Huaaaargh, hur hur hur! Want to write more stuff! Wooooords!

About me: 31, female, I live in Pittsburgh & Groningen (the Netherlands), currently packing and getting ready for another charming flight in the spam can. Woo, can't wait. Chicken or pasta?
PinkTutu is not my real name. My real name is Steffi.

Steffi, you just made my weekend with that mental image.

Hello! I am Sarah, also one of the Clarion grads -- used to lurk a lot on AW, but then I went to college and suddenly all my free time disappeared...

Have nothing else terribly useful to say at the moment, except Dana/Dien's backrubs are AMAZING.

Thanks, S! Another Clarion grad showing up. Thirty-nine years old, been writing for years, Clarion finally showed him what it took. Now champing at the bit. Yay!

Thanks, Shweta.

E. J. here, Clarion '08 grad (though I still haven't completely kicked the feeling that any morning I might have to trudge my sleepy body to workshop). I'm 24 and a resident of San Antonio, Texas. I've never visited Absolute Write before. It seems imposingly vast. Expect me to flit around tentatively like a scared hummingbird.

EJ, I think generally people find a few forums & stick to those (I've never even been in the one about greeting cards, heh.)

Grá would like to come on and say hi, but his AW account & he are having not-quite-irreconciliable differences. Because I am evil, I will pre-emptively introduce him by telling the general world one Extremely Important Thing:

Clarion is a six-week workshop, right? Ideally people write one story per week -- sometimes they take two weeks to write a story, or something, but most people hand in 6 stories over the course of the workshop.

Grá wrote 13 stories, and workshopped 8.

Um. Yeah.

Hi everyone! I'm Monica, and I'm also one of the Clarion 2008 graduates. Now that I know I can write a good story draft in three days, I'm working on a new one, conceived all in one flash while I was groggy, grumpy and half-asleep in the San Diego Airport... ;) Isn't it lovely when inspiration visits upon you like a little lacewing fly? And then it's gone again, before you realized it came...

Anyway, thank you for the welcome! And I look forward to exploring, though it may be of the nervous hummingbird-variety E.J. spoke of.

It does my heart good to see my homies here. *group hug*

(That said, I may vanish over the next few days. My laptop adapter seems to be dying and without that I am pretty much Paddling up the ol' Feces Creek with a regrettable lack of a paddle to hand.)

But I'll be back, friends and lovers!

Oh, Steffi, you make me happy...

Hello to everyone! Thank you for the welcome wishes. I'm Megan and I'm also recovering from Clarion 08 (what? I don't have 20,000 words to critique tonight? Whatever will my eyeballs do?). It was enormous fun.

Can't wait to explore here. See you around.

So, I was just browsing, but woah! Monica, you don't happen to know where UNC is, do you? ;)
