I am so thrilled to have finally found this forum. I have, for some time, wanted to find a serious place to go for advice, and to give advice where I can. I hope I'll be accepted into your community.
Well, a little about myself. I'm 28, a woman, English and living in London for a few more months, when I will return to my native Devon with my partner and our pet rats. I studied English at University and then went on to complete a teaching degree and have taught English literature and language at secondary school level. I am not teaching at the moment but hope to be again by the start of next year.
I wrote my first novel between the ages of 13-15; a book about foxes with a higher death-count then any Tarantino film. I was forever being told that it was like 'The Animals of Farthing Wood' which was rubbish - it happened to be my favourite book but it was nothing like it plot-wise. It was, ahem, a bit of a rip-off of Watership Down though...
When I was 20 I wrote a novel called the Plague Girl, set in 14th Century Devon. It's not very good
They do say you have to write 10'000 pages of crap before you start writing the good stuff though. I'll get there eventually. The book can be read here: http://www.vermin-realm.com/plaguegirl/index.html It's very cliched!
Now I am writing two novels and one book for younger children, although I am focusing on my YA. And no doubt I will need a lot of help along the way!
