Cool. Exposure is a good thing.

Though it reminds me of a question I've been pondering; in terms of themes, lief motifs and such, is it important for an author to talk about their work to the public? I remember during college in my photo class, I would critique someone and say "I liked this, and it reminds me of that..." Then when it came their time to speak I was very often disappointed by how much little thought when into their work.

So is it better to stay silent and mysterious? Or talk about your work in hopes of generating interest?

I think it depends on the author.

Guy Gavriel Kay can regale you for hours with his research and his mastery of story, as well as his theory of the story. So can authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Catheryne Valente.

But most of us are really at our best when he's talking about other people's stories, as critics of others.

It's one of those 'it depends' sort of things.

Wouldn't it be great if you asked that question again over at Fantasy Magazine, to expose this question to a wider audience? I promise I'll come up with an even better, completely different answer.
