He's with an older man, not his father. The boy is a runaway and they are traveling together. The older man is trying to look out for the boy until he can persuade him to return home.
Can't see where the Spanish comes into this. I have reasonable spanish and would help if I knew what the question was!
I need the Spanish-language equivalent of "Boy, wouldn't I love to have one of those babies." but the literal translation sounds too stiff to be coming from a teenage boy.

Capt - I agree with you. I wouldn't have known how to write it. I thought of orale, but couldn't think of a slang term for a truck.
Depends I think whether you want South American or Spanish, Spanish. I would say (in Spain)

So much depends on where the kid is from. For example
North Mexico: Que chido, quisiera tener una de esas madres.
South Mexico: Chingado, quisiera tener un camion como ese.
Los Angeles: Que padre, quisiera tener una de esas chingaderas
Puerto Rico: Coño, quisiera tener una guagua asi.
North Mexico: Que chido, quisiera tener una de esas madres.
South Mexico: Chingado, quisiera tener un camion como ese.

Capt Shady - Tex mex is what I thought when I read your post. In every region where spanish is spoken, there are slang words for everything. Not only that, but in different areas many words are used to describe the same thing.
ex: orange juice - jugo de china (Puerto Rico) , jugo de naranja (Argentina), thumo de naranja (Spain). A professor I had gave this example in class. The most important thing is that we all understand each other.P

Uh ... carful with the ching___ words. They derive from chingado ("fucked") and you can go from slang to unacceptably obscene jus tby crossing an invisible linguistic border.
