I thought a group of animal writers might be able to decipher facts from fiction, what do you all think ... real or contrived?

Yeah, raccoon.

There's a link to a TV interview with Jeff Corwin in there - I think he knows what he's talking about although I would really like to punch that dopey tv woman.

The teeth certainly look right and you have to expect a specimen like that to be damaged, and the end of the snout of the thing would be delicate, so it's probably not intact. I don't see any need for a more elaborate explanation.

I don't understand why they don't just run a DNA test or something and find out for sure. Gawker could certainly afford it; I believe the girls who found the Monster still have it, right?

Hee, I've totally been following this and wondering myself what it is.

That's easy to answer: If they give it up for examination and a dna test, it stops being a news story when it turns out to be a raccoon!

They can't run any tests on it because it's been missing for three weeks. It was "kidnapped" as the news stories have put it.

Hollywood already has their fat, grubby paws on this using the idea behind this "thing" to plant another grove of fruitful money trees for themselves. Any screenwriters out there want to apply for the job?
