I was thinking that, in addition to progress reports and success stories, it might be a good idea to have some idea of what everyone is writing. I know there's a thread for time and place, but that's pretty vague...
I'll go ahead and start things off:
Title: The Legions of Cannae (working)
Time/Place: Late 3rd century B.C. / Roman Republic
Brief Description: LoC is the story of veteran centurion Gaius Mamercus. After serving nearly two dozen campaigns with the legions, Gaius has retired to the family farm outside Capena and started a family. His life is quiet and peaceful until his cousin Aulus arrives and convinces him to sign on for one last campaign.
After certain victory turns into a crushing defeat at the Battle of Cannae, Gaius and the other survivors find themselves exiled to Sicily for the duration of the war, forced to serve without pay and without distinction. Furious at what they view as the Senate's injustice, several exiles mutiny or desert. Despite sharing their sympathies, Gaius stays loyal, knowing the only way he will see his family again is by redeeming himself on the battlefield. But as the years pass and the betrayals mount, even he will find his loyalty - to his Republic, to his friends, and to his cousin - tested to the breaking point.
