has anyone any info, or experience, on writing films for a non-Western market? i've got a story that i want to write up, set in Japan, which i think would be pretty good as a Japanese actioner rather than an American film filmed in Tokyo, if you get what i mean. most of the main characters would be Japanese, eg. i have no idea what to do with this tho. as in : i would have to write it in English, but would that be a problem when i try and sub it to companies. and that leads into : has anyone tried to sub to foreign places/agents/companies?

and this is linked to my other query, because the plot i'm working on is designed to be a two-parter, ending on a cliffhanger in part 1. there's something niggling in the back of my mind tho that it was said that spec scripts for multi-episodes is not a good move as people don't want to invest in an unproven writer for a part 1 that might end up bombing, etc.. is this about right, or should i just go for it?

LA, unfortunately.
Yeah, sequels is a not a worthwhile use of your or anyone's time. I'd drop that idea.

But the only instance of what you are talking about that I can think of is this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286635/. Which was written by a UCLA student but made in Hong Kong. Perhaps you can google his name (Joey O'Bryan) and see if you can find any info on how that happened. It seems from his credits he PA'd on some Hong Kong films so maybe he had connections over there I don't know...

Some big Japanese directors have US agents (most horror guys though) so maybe that'd be an option for you -- to submit to them.
