I feel like there's a word for this and I just can't access it in my brain! Help!!!

I'm looking for one word to describe someone's better qualities. Their positive attributes. Kind of like their talents but more in a personality sense.

Here's the context, in case that matters:

Ellie could understand why Roger denied responsibility for Timothy’s [_______]. It seemed improbable that such a lively, personable young man could have been produced by Roger’s dour reticence.

Is there a word that fits there or am I just being crazy today?

I usually use that one, but if you don't have a single-word synonym, a thesaurus doesn't work. I can't type in "positive attribute" and get "virtue." Although I just noticed "attribute" gets me virtue...

Anyway my point was sometimes there's no replacement for another human. Thanks guys. :)
