. . . . promoted their book through a magazine aimed at the same audience?

How does this work? Is it a good idea?

Yes, Pudge and if it is considered to be worth the expense it will be arranged by the publisher. Promotion happens all the time in many ways - TV interviews are another way. The One Show, Richard and Judy, Oprah....

How's your first chapter coming along?

I'm really enjoying it, It seems to be flowing well at the moment. I think as long as I don't attempt to rewrite it or analyse it mid flow it will go well.
I am currently sat at my desk with a minimised word document typing away like mad. I wouldn’t normally but there really isn’t any work to do.
I will email it home later and attach it to what I already have.
I have decided to end chapter one. I felt I was starting to drag it out just for the sake of it.
This new chapter cuts out a lot of boring dilly-dallying my character was doing and is now back in the thick of it.

Have to say - worry about promotion after you have finished the book. And I'm glad your first chapter is going well. Keep at it.

Promotion will be a two-way enterprise between you and your publisher. They will do so much, and expect you to do your part. If you have creative ideas, run them by them and see what they say.

I think the bottom line is how much anyone is willing to invest, and what the expected returns will be.
