does my book fit in here?

Is this a good place to post about otherwise strictly historical fiction with one fantasy element? I do my research, and other than utilizing time travel for a fish-out-of-water protagonist, it really is as accurate as I can make it.

If it's not, is there somewhere else on this forum that would allow me to fit in?

Thanks!

In my opinion, since you're trying to be historically accurate, you'd fit in fine right here. Gabaldon's Outlander books are considered historicals, and she has a time-traveling protagonist as well. (Heck, she's a distinguished guest at HNS conferences! ) So, welcome!

I call my work "fantasy," not "historical fiction," because in truth that's what it is--fantasy. Through and through.

However, I make lots of use of historical elements and there are times I don't wish to rely on fantasy, I want them to be accurate! Should I have a question about such a thing that I think someone on here might know the answer to, I wouldn't hesitate to ask. (At the moment I have my books to rely on, so... :D )

IMO it doesn't matter what genre you're writing in; if you're making use of historical elements and want them to be accurate, that aspect of the story at least would fit in here.

I hemmed and hawed over whether to call this thing historical fantasy or historical with a fantasy element. To make matters worse, it's got a setting and period (1870s Yellowstone and Montana) that make most people think it' s a western, but it's not a classic western by any stretch. It's making it very difficult to market without putting people off for something it isn't.

Welcome Megaera! In my opinion it takes more historical knowledge and sensitivity to write about a historical period and tweak just one thing (and see what the consequences are) than to write straight historical fiction. Sounds like a cool period to write about.
