I'm looking for the word for someone with a patron. Not the patron himself but the person who has one. It's something of a teacher/student relationship, rather than an artist/patron relationship.

Patron-client has been used before. Client might sounds a little stilted however in the way you want to use it.

I might think about just using "student". Or maybe "intern".

Thanks, folks, I think protege is the word that best fits. It's for a medieval fantasy setting.

According to OED the following words mean a person receiving patronage: client, parson, minstrel, protégé, patronee, and minion.

For a Mideaval Fantasy "minion" would seem to be the best!
