You should definitely be proud of your accomplishments. I would be happy if I were you. And it's always good to have something to list in that paragraph on your query letters where experience and accomplishments are supposed to go. And you beat out plenty of other people. You deserve to treat yourself for sure.
If you want to be totally realistic, since that's what you are actually asking, it's not one of the very big contests. And they have one hell of a lot of quarterfinalists. I've also never understood the popularity of this contest as it seems to be run by people without a lot of credits (the guy's biggest credit is being Phillip Seymour Hoffman's brother and the girl was an intern once).
Really, we all should get together and start a contest and make bank. At least NMS, CreativeExec, Kullervo and I, if not others of you who don't flaunt your experience so much <g>, have as much experience as some people running these things (by that I mean any experience at all). My first boss, who was completely useless, started a film festival in order to have somewhere to show his terrible movie that couldn't get into other festivals. And he actually made money. There are always people who will submit scripts and films and pay you for it. It's amazing. I need to be more entrepreneurial...
Back to the topic at hand: Being a quarterfinalist in this contest is not going to send agents to your door. Honestly, being the winner of this contest probably won't send agents to your door. But if you can win, 10k is nothing to laugh about. And any contest placement is better than not having contest placement (although, it's always useful to re-read kullervo's website on contests). So be happy, you deserve it and if you want to, be realistic. But only if you want to.
