My cat is a creative thinker. :-)

Shaffer, my cat, has come up with a new way to annoy me while I am on the computer. It used to be that he would walk back and forth in front of my monitor or nip at my ankles. There were times when he would jump up on the back of my chair and head-butt me or nip at my neck.

His nips don't hurt. They are love nips but, they can get annoying when I am trying to concentrate. The only thing more annoying than a cat who gives love nips is a husband who is a never ending gooser. I seldom ever bend over to pick things up when my husband is around. It is like a disease. He can't help it. If my bum is in the air, he's got to goose it! Well, I suppose that's one way to teach a person about safe lifting. *shrug*

Back to the cat...

Yesterday, Shaffer began doing something different. Instead of pacing back and forth in front of my monitor, he'll stand still on my desk and cover my eyes with his tail. It cracks me up because I can tell it is something he does intentionally. He'll hold that position until I pick him up.

To me that is evidence of creative thinking.

Absolutely! What is it about computer screens, anyway? Tabby - my heavy weight - has learned to come up behind the laptop and close the lid if I leave it for even a few minutes. And if I lower the lid to half mast (to keep them from curling up on the keys), they've all learned they can just shut it and curl up on the top. They're definitely not 'dumb animals'.

Here's what you do: get a small squirt bottle and fill it with water. Next time hubby gooses you, hit him with a shot of water in the face and shout a stern "NO!" Or whack him with a rolled up newspaper. That oughta do it.

My last cat used to help me avoid eye strain . . . by promptly sitting on any book, newspaper, or magazine I was trying to read. I could be holding a book in front of me and she would sneak over and plop herself down on it as though it was her bed. Then she would look at me just daring me to make her move.

My brown tabby likes to sit in my lap and rest her chin on my hands while I type. She starts barely touching me and then her head gets progressively heavier until I can no longer type.

And she likes to scan pictures of her tail. She's learned how to walk across the scanner and push buttons. She really likes it.

And with a laptop there's not room for the whole cat but just enough for her to rest her head and a paw or two so I can manage to hit the Q and the page up/down buttons...
