Hi, I have obviously just joined the boards and have decided not to lurk (at this time) :)
I look forward to reading some interesting topics and meeting a lot of new people.

I have always wanted to be a writer, and I have several great ideas (at least that's what my friends tell me). However, once I get an idea and start to write, something happens and I have to stop and then my writing goes by the wayside. Any suggestions for finding that lost momentum?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard! I do the same thing with lost momentum. I jump around a lot from one story to another and just tell myself that as long as I am writing I am learning. Eventually something usually takes hold and I find an idea that buds to fruition and come out at the end with a story. Just keep plugging away and know that you are learning the best way that a writer can learn...by writing. You will learn a lot about the craft here. Enjoy!

Welcome, Weswerx! :Sun:

I'm afraid the only solution is Butt In Chair. That is, making time to write, rather than waiting to find the time. Good luck!

Welcome to the cooler. I've been here less than a month and I'm hopelessly addicted. I'm learning so much and this a bottomless wealth of information---and smart alecks:Hug2: . Welcome aboard.

Hi Weswerx,

Good choice, de-lurking. You can get a great deal out of this site regardless of whether you post, but I can guarantee you'll get more out of it if you participate.

Cheers,
Sarah

Thanks for all the words of welcome.
I am currently trying to regain my focus on a script idea that I have and so far it seems to be working. I'll keep you updated, but probably in a different thread.

Hi and welcome, Weswerx. Good luck with the script! Drop by the Screenwriting Forum and take a look. They have a special spot there for posting works for critique if and when you're ready to take that step. Mind you, they can be a rowdy bunch, but they are knowledgeable and the moderator Joe is one of the best guys you'll ever meet.

Hi Weswerx, it's good to meet you. Welcome to the Cooler!

:hi:

I don't know what to say about keeping up the momentum, except that many times I'll have more than one story going at the same time. That way if I get bored with one I can file it away for awhile and work on another one. I personally like it that way, anyway, because if I have a variety of things to work on, I don't get caught in a rut and therefore get bored doing the same thing over and over.:Hammer:

Hi and welcome to anyone delurking! :)

As for keeping the momentum going, the only thing I can think of is to sit down (computer or notebook--the kind with paper and a pen) and make yourself continue the story, even if what you're writing sucks. Set a daily goal of so many pages or words and stick to it.

Good luck,

Torin
